LOL... Vegemite is an aquired taste ... you were probably trying it too thick on your bread ... you need to try it on warm toast with plenty of butter and just the tiniest scrape of vegimite to start and as you get the taste for it you increase the amount of vegemite ... as for Peanut Butter yes we love it although we (or at least the people I know) have it with honey more than jam (jelly)
Edit*
Kazz is right ... nice with cheese and lettuce |

Yes we do eat peanut butter.
At one time a politician, called Joh, tried to get the name changed to peanut paste. (That was about 30 years ago.)
He said it was because there was no real butter in it.
He succeeded for a while, in his state, but now the name is back to peanut butter.
Some people still call it peanut paste, I know I do sometimes.
You're not alone about Vegemite, there are Aussies who don't love it, too.
I like it, thinly spread, on really fresh bread, but not every day. |

Sorry Guys, Im also an aussie, living in Western Australia, and over here it is called peanut paste. It was only when I went to the eastern states that I heard it referred to as butter. |

Yes we do like peanut butter :) As for the vegemite I have found that people who have never tried it before especially Americans tend to spread it on their bread thick like peanut butter- you are supposed to spread it on with a thin layer and quite often tastes nice with a slice of cheese but either way with or without the cheese its just a THIN very Thin layer :)

Just added this after reading comments left - I am Australian and live in Australia and I can tell you I have never heard of Peanut Paste - we definately also call it Peanut Butter -- and as for we will eat anything because we are decendents of convicts - ummm yeah ok - nice generalisation there |

Yes, lots of Australia eat peanut butter. One thing nobody does however is put it with jelly (we call it jam here) on sandwiches. That is weird! It's great for making satay sauce though. |

Each country has their own food preferences and tastes. Since people grow up eating certain types of food, they learned to like it , but people who have never tasted certain types of food might not necessarily like it. in this case Aussies love it....It's equalivent to peanut butter i think. |

Yes, people in Australia do like peanut butter.
As for Vegemite, I personally love the stuff. Whenever I travel overseas I always make sure I pack some- they make it in a really cool tube thing now which is easy to pack. The key to Vegemite is the ratio of Vegemite:Butter/Marge:Bread. It's kind of like a science experiment- too much or little of one ingredient and it doesn't work.
One alternative way to eat it, which was something I used to do as a kid, you smear Vegemite and butter(or marge) on to Vita Wheat biscuits. You put two biscuits together and squeeze until the Buttery-Vegemite worms come out the holes. It's good on Saladas too. |

Hey... don't apologise for not liking Vegemite. I think Concord Grape is the most foul thing I've ever put in my mouth. It makes Durian positively pleasant by comparison.
As for peanut butter... love it. Especially on a crusty roll with freshly sliced tomato or beetroot. |
|

But Why??
|
yeah, crunchy. |

I moved to Aus about 5 years ago, vegimite was so unsual for me. I was 14 and had never heard of it til then. I tried to like it because it's like a traditional thing here but I've given up long ago just couldn't bear it. I'm sure most Americans feels that way about vegimite. |
