As an Australian, I just love the Aussie humour seen here! I know the yanks won't get it, it;s called sarcasm - and yes, this is an international site, those in the US should really get their heads around the fact that there are other countries outside the states!

The penguins in question are called fairy penguins although some fools are trying to get their name changed to "little penguin" so people won't think the penguins are gay. Most of us are sure this is just a sad joke. Anyhow they are native to Australia and can be found as far north as halfway up the New South Wales coast. They can even be seen swimming in Sydney Harbour. They swim around in the day and come ashore every evening to their burrows which are usually just behind the beach. Watching them come ashore enmasse can be quite intriguing/entertaining. On Phillip Island in Victoria the govt decided to set up a huge viewing centre with spotlights and boardwalks so all the tourists could watch the "march" of the penguins without interferring with them and damaging the landscape.

I recommend the penguin watching at Phillip Island. It allows you to get up close and see them, without harming them or their habitat.
