In the zoos, yes. In the wild, no.
Snakes sense humans appropaching by feeling vibrations in the gound. They are actually not interested in having anything to do with people, and they turn and run. When you do see a snake in the wild, it will be frightened, and probably feel that it is cornered. That makes the occassional contact with snakes in the wild very dangerous. They bite people in order to protect themselves. I have seen red bellied browns, and sea snakes in the wild in Australia. You have to get off the beaten path to find snakes, then you have to be looking for them.

As their habitats are being taken over by humans, snakes are being found more and more often in peoples yards/houses, they are being left with no choice but to try and co-exist with humans, but because humans put themselves above all other creatures, the snakes are put to death ASAP (even though they were here before we were)

Generally, snakes don't slither down the main street (just as kangaroos don't hop down the main streets) but snakes are still found in city areas.

referralguru
Depends if you go looking for them or not. If you are a bit of an amatuer herpetologists like me you can find heaps in certain areas of the country, otherwise if you arent looking for them you will rarely come across them.

Its the ones you don't see that are the biggest problem!!

Richo Fev
No, not really. If you live in the bush you see more. I live in Perth, and I havent seen one in the city. However, my mate had one in his shed a few weeks ago, and his area is very urban.

All this summer I have seen one live snake, and he was on the road on the outskirts of a town. They are very shy.

what trip are those two on.

what a load of bullsh!t - snakes yes there are plenty I have seen plenty in my life - I live in far north Qld and yes there are snakes and big ones too - I have seen red belly black snakes, green tree snakes, copperheaded snakes, king brown snakes - to name a few - they like long grassy areas, the bush or rainforest, I have had snakes come thru the windows of the house and end up under the freezer and on another occasion I was about to jump into the shower when there was a nasty looking snake in there ready to bite - what a shocker that was - they like the warmer climates more than anything and these two events happened in south east Qld in the Brisbane area. So to answer you question direct - yes I do see lots of snakes in Australia.

yeah the rest of the b@stards answers can go to hell - obviously they dont get outdoors enough to smell the fresh air and not the fart they just blew out their @ss

sunshine
well dont see snakes in my area of town but I know they are in this country, so far been here two years saw no snakes.
just cockroaches big as snakes in some of the units they rent out here.THAT caused me to scream, disgusting.

BillyB8
It's not the ones you see that are the problem. You or it can evade the other.
It's the one you don't see and place your foot too close or on top of.

THEN WORRY!!!!!

It totally depends on where you are and what you're doing.
It's the same as asking "Do you see lots of bears, racoons, or snakes in the US?"
If you're in the right area, you will.
Last time I saw a snake was in Australia Zoo.
We did have some in the house yard, from time to time, when we lived out in country. Everyone does.
I no longer live out in the bush, and don't get bothered by them.

laplandfan
I went on holiday to oz and only saw two snakes out in the wild. One was at Daintree rain forest up in a tree (near barrier reef) and the other was at the Theme Park Dreamworld. on the Gold Coast.....saw it sliding across the path.
Other than that I did niot see any others but i wasn;t particularly looking either!!!!!

guinshine
No not unless you are in the bush, in the cities or towns they are non existant! NB i have never seen a snake in the whole 23 years i have lived here!!!

Barticus
Yep!...I had a green tree snake come into my house and make it self comfortable in my christmas tree. Also had a red bellied black snake in my laundry. I was living in Cairns when I got the green tree snake, and I was living in Brisbane when the red bellied black came into my laundry.

qldtravelguru
yep the most venomous- contry to all guides is the papuan black (snake) found on islands in the torres strait their venom can kill you in 6 mins or less, frankly not even enough time to get the anti venon.

I know because i lived in the torres straits and saw 2 people get bitten in my time there- was not pretty at all.

frankly snakes (unless violently inclined) will keep clear of you if they hear you approaching , the more vicous ones are the ones you need to keep an eye out for....

margimo
I've lived in Australia for 38 years and have never seen one in the wild. Although I have been in situations where other people have seen them and warned me so I stay clear. I have however seen dead ones hanging over paddock fences.

Leroy
Coming into winter now they will all be hibernating. But in summer where i live you see them all the time. Tigers, black, browns, red bellied and copperheads are the main ones we see down here in Victoria. Its not the ones you do see that freak you out, its the ones you dont see.

depends on where you are. They are pretty much everywhere but in some areas there are more than others

you can see a lot of snakes if the weather is fine & you are looking around you Just dont anoy them & 9 times out of 10 they will just go away

cherub
There are lots there and dangerous ones. I spent a year there and on two occasions I just missed seeing one by seconds in North Queensland. They are quick. They can be found in isolated places, long grassy areas, sandy areas, rocky areas. There are lots of landscapes like this in tourist areas there but you don't always see them. You do have to be prepared and know what to do in case of a bite however. You are much more likely to see crocodiles and spiders though not to mention the cockroaches.
