and believe me it's not the same thing,
VAT is the mother of all taxes!
It's usually charged on everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, electricity, phone bill, profit from the sale of your house, hospital bills, funeral costs etc. etc. anything that the government can think of...and they will.
be very thankful you don't have VAT!!

It's the same thing but here we call it GST (goods & services tax) The rate is lower, VAT is 17.5% but GST **so far** is only 10%. |

Yes, they have it since 2000.
But the Aussies are luckier than we Germans because our rate is a lousy 19% and 7% on unprepared food such as milk and bread! And this sucks! |
