Bardy: I certainly hope you had words with your child's teacher...Canada, wtf?! She shouldn't be teaching...
To those of you who keep telling me about the flags...that was not my question...I know my own flag and I know what the NZ flag looks like...the question I asked is valid, because it's ANZAC Day, pfft!
Anyway, they didn't fly the NZ flag along side ours in our small town, they did however, fly the British flag.

Australia & New Zealand Army Corps = ANZAC. I know a lot of Americans think New Zealand is part of OZ, but it's not.Was when we were 1st settled but gained its own independance not long after. It is also a 3hr flight away. |

I certainly hope so, because in Australia, we fly both the Australian and the New Zealand flags at our commeration services and play both National Anthems.
It is ANZAC Day after all.
Edit for Dangerous: I'll rephrase that: at every Anzac ceremony I've ever attended the New Zealand flag has been flown and the Kiwis have been given full recognition and have been spoken of as Australia's partner in the Anzac legend and tradition.
It's sad and disrespectful that no mention was made of N.Z. at the Leichhardt ceremony.
Edit for Bardy - I'd be having extremely strong words with both the teacher and the school principal.
If they get something that obvious incorrect then God alone knows what other crap they are spruking to the little ones. |

WTF? You're an Aussie too aren't you? The 'NZ' in ANZAC, you've never thought to wonder what that stands for? Australia New Zealand Army Corps. Somewhere out there is a teacher who needs their bum kicked, lol! Major omission from your education that one.
**Sorry, I just noticed that I didn't answer you after all that,*sheepish look* we fly theirs and they fly ours, ANZAC includes both countries. Also just BTW, Kiwis living here, who are veterans march here on Anzac day, and visa versa. |

The NZ flag and the flags of the RNZN and RNZAF are flown. Australia is often mentioned in the speeches.

Why would the Australian flag be flown anywhere in NZ on ANZAC day??
If they started flying the Australian flag there should be nothing stopping them flying the British, Canadian, French, Russian, Italian or American flag.
In the smaller towns there is probably no Australian flag to hoist.
EDIT: To Elizabeth:
At the service I went to in Leichhardt there was no mention of NZ.
EDIT: In NZ's the focus is less on Gallipoli specifically and more just on all wars in general. |
