Infinite Wisdom

Does anyone have any suggestions of places to visit and things to do in Perth, Western Australia?

I am going on holiday to Perth, Western Australia in a few days for 4 weeks and I would welcome any suggestions of places to visit in or around Perth.

There's heaps to do in Perth and in WA, since you're there for 4 weeks, spread it out, allow yourself time to explore the city thoroughly. Even take time to visit the usual tourist spots.

Few areas that you might want to go to:

Cottlesoe: Nice cafes to sit for coffee, watch the surfers, watch a nice sunset on a clear day

Fremantle: More coffee to drink on cappucino strip, visit the infamous Little Creatures Brewery (one amongst many in Fremantle). Explore its nightlife as well. Take the night prison tour, visit the maritime museum (Fremantle's rich in its fishing history), visit the HMAS Oven submarine.

Perth City: Do some shopping on Hay & Murray Street, visit the old churches, sit and have a meal by the swan river, visit the swan bells, and take a day to explore kings park. Also...a visit to the zoo right in the middle of the city is worth it. Take a cruise down the river...and watch the sunset.

Perth city at night is fairly good on the weekends. It's famous for its clubbing in Northbridge (or Chinatown). There's a good bar called the Brass Monkey which offers great beer on tap.

A day's trip, take a ride over to Rottnest Island, spend the day cycling (check weather forecasts before hand). If you're with friends, consider staying the night.

Around the state, outside Perth, WA has much to offer. Albany's a wonderful quaint town just about a 4-hr car ride away from Perth. A whaling town mostly, but lots to see. Probably a good time for whale watching.

let me know if you need anymore information. i'm currently residing in perth.

As you pass thru customs and into Gods country, look for free booklets that will point you to many of Perth's great hot spots.
Ask at the info counter for this booklet and don't leave the airport without it !! Seriously.
After you settle into your accommodation take a day to rest up and then ask the locals for their opinion on what you should do first.
Perth people love to point you in the right direction and are happy to see you have a great time while you are there.
The Hey Street Mall. (Shopping)
King's Park ( for a BBQ, and great sights of the city centre)
Beaufort St (for Clubbing)
The Swan River Cruise's (Wine Cruise will knock your head off!!)
Fremantle (take the train) for the markets and the pubs, visit the sail and anchor and down a dogbolter beer.
Scarborough beach for the surf.
I could go on and on and on...............
Perth is a great place to chill, enjoy, I'm jealous mate mate mate.

yeah in or around Perth, definetly take the ferry to rottnest island, its a great little spot just off the mainland, head to West Coast Drive for I think some of the best veiws in Perth, shopping wise give anything a miss but carosuel (caro) in Cannington, its the best ever and with regards to getting around I reccomened Ferries busses and Trains.....its so much easier than driving here, take it from someone who used to live in a country town in eastern australia.......and now lives in perth

I'll not give a long answer.

Rottnest Island. Brilliant.
Fremantle Cappucino strip.
AFL Game at Subiaco.
Swan River wine cruise.
Little Creatures brewery Freo & Cicerello's fish 'n' chips.

There is plenty to see and do in Perth.

You cant go wrong doing a day trip over to Rottnest Island...fantastic beaches, some nice eateries, hire a bike and go for a ride about the island!

Others things to try might include -

1) spending a day shopping around the Hay St and Murray St malls in the CBD

2) visit the Perth Museum in Francis St Northbridge

3) visit the Perth Art Gallery (Northbridge)

4) visit Perth Zoo (South Perth)

5) day trip to Fremantle is definitely worth the effort...great shopping, cafe strip, cool pubs, Matilda Bay and Little Creatures breweries, 2 maritime museums – shipwrecks and Australia II, Peri Benou vessels to name a few attractions, old Fremantle Jail tours, the Roundhouse, Fishing Boat harbour to name a few attractions.

6) See Kings Park...massive botannical gardens set right in the heart of Perth CBD...truly wonderful to behold! Check out the WA state War Memorial, treetop walk, Pioneer Womens Fountain, DNA tower!

7) Head to Hillary's Marina...great boardwalk, lots of eateries and shopping, very cool AQUARIUM called AQWA with heaps of local marine life on display

8) Nothing beats a day spent driving along the coast from Fremantle to Hillary's visiting the many beaches...best of which might include both Scarborough and Cottesloe which are both famous for their cafe strips and pubs :)

9) Visit Whiteman Park...lovely day trip admiring local wildlife and flora

10) Check to see if there are any shows on at the Burswood Theatre (Burswood Casino) or His Majesty's Theatre (Hay St, Perth CBD)

11) get yourself along to Subiaco Oval to watch either the West Coast Eagles or Fremantle Dockers play a game of AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL...now that's one spectacle no visitor should ever miss! Some pretty good restaurants and pubs in Subiaco as well :)

12) Visit the Swan Bells at Perth Belltower on Perth CBD Swan River foreshore

13) Visit Northbridge entertainment district (Just to north of Perth CBD)

14) Wine Cruises departing daily from Barrack St Jetty Swan River foreshore Perth CBD

15) Visit John Forrest and Yanchep National Parks

16) Harbourtown in Perth CBD for factory direct outlet shopping

17) Nice views back over the city from the WA state parliament house in Perth CBD opposite Kings Park

18) There's always Burswood Casino if you're into that sort of thing

19) Perhaps check out the Trots at Gloucester Park Raceway or Greyhound Racing at Cannington Greyhounds

20) Check to see if the Speedway is on (motor racing, dragway racing) down at the Motorplex, Anketell Rd Kwinana

21) Check out the weekend markets at Wanneroo, Subiaco, Malaga, Fremantle, Canningvale

22) Plenty of fishing charters operate in Perth if your keen on fishing

Additionally you might like to also visit some nearby towns –

1) Kalgoorlie (east of Perth) for it’s rich gold mining history
2) Kalbarri (north of Perth) sits right at the edge of the Pilbara and is famous for its beaches, breathtaking windswept cliffs, fishing, bushwalking, and gorges
3) Busselton is a lovely town nearby both Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste
4) Margaret River, Yallingup, Dunsborough region comprises lovely towns, great beaches, surfing, fishing, and FANTASTIC wineries!
5) Albany features lovely natural features such as Dog Rock, The Gap
6) Dwellingup is a lovely forest timber town featuring the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway

I live in a town in Perth called Ballingup. its a nice small wine town that has blow out skiing. It also is a great place for cheap cabers and has a combo of farming, jungle, western, wine, and the stero version of AU. Ballingups just NE out of the city of perth. Good luck

i would suggest to go north. since it is winter it is cold in perth and south of perth - although margaret river is lovely i would recommend to go there for a few days.

North there is exmouth, coral bay, broome. All are accesible by road or air, depending on your budget.

check out website www.skywest.com.au for places to fly within WA. You will love your stay as long as you are not visiting to party won't get much partying in perth in winter.

have fun

These are all good ideas. The fact is that you can just walk through town and things are going on. Freemantle is a must and is the same way. Buy pearls while you are there for your sweetheart. Good prices. Cheers!
