Does anyone in Australia have any support for the Bali 9? |
I am an American and I keep in touch with one of the parents and I really feel for her. I am not saying that drug trafficking is right but I really feel for her and her family. Why do some Australians feel little or no sympathy for the Bali 9? I know they were dealing with heiron etc and it kills people and they broke the laws but they are still human beings! Juat wanted to know if their are any Aussie who support the Bali 9. What will Rudd do to help? |

hell NO! they made their own stupid decison. but i do find it ironic that they come down so hard on drugs but are leanient to those sick people who were involved in the bali bombings! |

Every Australian has known since the Barlow & Chambers executions in 1986what the consequences of drug trafficking in Bali are. Hell, we are even warned as young travellers not to carry any luggage through customs for anyone or to leave bags unattended. there is no way the Bali 9 would not have known that - they would have to be sub-normal intelligence to make such a bad decision.
I know a lot of my friends and family think they shouldn't be executed because justice can be served with a prison sentence.
But, on the other hand, we realistically can't force our legal standards on another sovereign country.
I feel sorry for the parents. |

I have no sympathy for anyone who chooses to break the law, whether it be drug trafficking, drinking underage or speeding. The crime doesn't matter, it's the fact that these people knew the law before they broke it, but still willingly chose to try and sneak into th Indonesia for a few dollars.
I hope Kevin Rudd leaves them in jail there, where they belong. |

I have NO sympathy for people that do drugs, sell, take them or whatever - they knew what they were doing, and so be it.
I hope Rudd does NOT do a damn thing. They all deserve to rot in jail or get the death sentance... |

I don't believe that the Bali nine deserve any more sympathy than the idiotic tourists in the N.T. that get taken by crocs. These tourists inevitably get taken within twenty metres of a warning sign about croc activity and no swimming. The Airports in Indonesia are heavily signed warning tourists of the penalties for drug smuggling, these people went there to deliberately break the law, both there and back here, their motivation, money. While not personally agreeing with the Death Penalty, as a student of politics, I know that when visiting an overseas destination, one must be prepared to obey the local laws and customs. To ignore this fact in the quest for financial gain makes you a criminal, and no matter what country you are in,"if you can't do the time, don't commit the crime!!" |

how can he help?
if the Australian pm said dont shoot an Aussie on death row would bush release him?
of course not
firstly they are guilty secondly they knew the risk they pay the price
there is nothing rudd can do if he trys he will lose my vote. drugs kill and they did it for money, let them die
if you want to help people who are about to be executed start in the usa, you have the largest number of executions in the west |

Australians are well aware of the penalty for drug trafficking ...so no I dont think many have sympathy for the Bali 9...for their families yes... Not sure there is much that PM Rudd can do that hasnt been done...The Bali govt seem to more sympathetic to the Bali bombers...so that just show where their heads are at... |

It's not that we don't care we do feel for them and their families. However everyone knows when visiting foreign countries it is foolish to disobey their laws especially drug laws, and in light of what happened to Schappell Corby for trying to export marahuana a short time previously before makes them look even more foolish.
Heroin kills and destroys the life of the user and devastates their families. is there any wonder that there is little sympathy.
I am sorry for your friend |

Aussie's are a forgiving lot, but not when it comes to drugs or sex offences. The bali 9 were all old enough to understand the seriousness of what they were doing, as well as knowing the legalities, regardless of their upbringing.
I was raised in a dreadful environment but that only made me more determined NOT to do the same thing myself. So that is not a valid excuse.
If money was the issue then they definitely did not have an excuse as we have an excellent social security service available in our country. Our governments helps those that do not help themselves. The working middle class are the forgotten, not those that look for an excuse not to work.
We have a lot of free counselling and services of the like available to anyone who feels the need to seek them. We can also see our doctors for advice without extended delays.( we can see any doctor, in any medical centre within an hour )
These people commited this crime for nothing more then financial gain with little or no regard for anyone else, let alone their own mothers or loved ones. |

It is my belief that a lot of Aussie's think that these kids were persuaded into be mules for a money hungry drug dealer. They have drug addictions and were preyed upon. I saw some news reports and it was quite clear that they are uneducated people. They made a bad choice and have paid dearly. Rudd will most likely do very little, the Aussie gov has no jurisdiction. |

Yea one of them. The Australian government put at less one of the nine to death 2 weeks prior to him leaving Australia. His concerned father suspect something wrong was happening and went to authorities (AFP) with his concern of his son going to Bali and that he could involved in some sort of legal activity. This was what lead to the 9 being arrested. What really taint this is that they actually had AFP (Australian Federal Police) undercover officer there to make sure everything want down by the book because the Aussie Government dose not trust the Indonesian law authorities. So if they really needed young bloke right up to that point, they still could of got this young bloke out of the sting. The father must have got lead to believe this by the AFP or would not have gave up his son. His father has not said this but has confirm this when asked the question. The father has always been a devout christian and is properly hoping that god may save him. I my self see the present Australian will government reverse this betrayal. |
