u get that type of info where ever u go in the world. each counrty is biased so u will go there. and u sound like a whinger . enjoy life dont look for negatives.

Ofcourse Brisbane has no beaches... it's an inland city!! Duh!

Queensland has the most beautiful beaches, especially up north where the rainforrests are etc. Jellyfish are seasonal... if you decided to travel during jellyfish season, that's ur mistake... when you travel you need to do research!

Australia is a beautiful place and most deffinately not a cultural wasteland?! You just don't seem very bright and capable of research.

Show me where it said that? Of course there's no beaches in Brisbane it sits 20miles from the coast. Look at a map! One will also notice its outlying coastal regions are hugged by islands= flat bays. Perhaps it said 'access to' or 'within easy reach'. If not, I would be annoyed.
In any case who relies on one source for one's travels and the supposed state-run non-independant source at that? Ignorance.
The river is not as polluted as you suggest and gains its sometimes brown colour from natural sediment. It is commonly used by residents for water skiing a few kms upstream from the centre of town.
The nearest beach is a somewhat closer 75km, 50min drive straight down a highway. It doesn't take much effort to find out about Surfers Paradise, part of the Gold Coast, only the stretch of some of the world's greatest accessible surf n sand beaches, safe year round.
Ignorance
There is no such country in the world that is a cultural wasteland, (that doesn't even makes sense), only the un-en-lightened who've yet to gain the ability to seek and find.

I won't even start on the rainforests, waterfalls, palm fringed pure white beaches on clear azure waters.

You go up and down the coast a little, and there they are, Australian cities aren't contained to 5km areas.

Well you are right to an extent about Brisbane beaches, but I can assure you Australia is a paradise and NOT a wasteland.

Can you tell us who advertised this, was it a private company, Brisbane tourism etc - TV, radio, magazines, was it overseas adverts...... this complaint needs to be put into the tourism board if they are getting it this wrong.

Please add details if you can - I am very interested in this.

I have swum at both Redcliffe beach and Brighton beach in the UK. I can tell you Redcliffe is FAR better!

You didnt do your research very well. Brisbane is 20km inland from the beach so derrrrrr!

To answer your question - No I do not share this experience.
Anyone would be able to guess, you'd think, that Brisbane is inland, therefore, does not have the world's best beaches. Many people who come to Australia have heard of the Whitsunday Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef - and instead of heading to an inland city for beaches - they head up there.
I've swum in the sea in summer in Australia plenty of times and I'm still alive - as millions of other people have done - so if you chose to not swim in case you got stung, that's your choice.
I think this question is just designed to annoy people - the lack of information about "who" advertised this leads me to think that you're just bored.
Maybe, next time you're bored and want to whinge about Australia, which many people all around the world have visited and been delighted with - you could pick up a Lonely Planet guide, or, you could do your own research so that you'll have some CLUE about where you're heading. And, as I'm sure you've probably heard before - if you don't like it - go home.

Im born and raised QLD and Ive never seen advertisement saying Brissy has Worlds best beaches.

You are welcome to your opinion, but as far as I know Brisbane has never claimed to have the world's best beaches. It does however claim to be in close proximity to some of Australia's best beaches located about 45 minutes south on the Gold Coast, and about 90 minutes north on the Sunshine Coast.

Redcliffe has never claimed to be a surfing beach. It's a seaside area.

I'd like to see the material that you viewed to get this information because I'm confident it was NOT written by the Australian Tourist Bureau.

If you think Australia is a cultural wasteland then you obviously visited the wrong areas.

Have you ever actually been to Brisbane let alone Australia, you can get stung by a jelly fish in England just the same as you can in Australia, but in Australia they actually put nets up to stop them coming anywhere near bathers we don't do that in England, Australia is an amazingly beautiful country with wonderful people, you have to see it with your own eyes.

Port Douglas
All the islands in Tropical North Qld

Then in NSW
Byron Bay
Coffs Harbour
Bondi Beach
Batemans Bay

Then in VIC
Lorne
Torquay
St Kilda
Williamstown
Rye
Portsea

Australia is just like any other country - you have to be wary of seasonal issues like jellyfish, storms, etc

The job of a tourist bureau is to make the place sound good! It's like getting Tom Cruise to tell you how fantastic Scientology is. Would you convert to Scientology just because Tom Cruise told you to? I wouldn't even get on a plane without doing some research first, be it on the internet , talking to locals or people who have been there before. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay to my beautiful country but it sounds to me like you took the lazy way out and went and saw what the Tourist Bureau TOLD you that you should go and see.instead of doing your homework first

Visit Blue Mountain. Or Sydney Harbour. Or Bon Lemmond, the ice covered mountain in Tasmania. Don't depend on tourist information. Google to find your way.

Only those from Brisbane claim that, the truth is Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth beaches are far superior, they also have a better cultural life.
