They have a prime minister. But they are still officially under England, so the queen of England is the official ruler.

Australia is not under England, it is an independant nation just as Canada and New Zealand are. The Queen of England is also the Queen of Australia and she has that title. The Queen's representative in Australia is the Governor General but the business of Government is done by the Parliament. The leader of the political party with the majority in the House of Representatives is the Prime Minister.

In the not too distant future, most probably when the current Queen dies, Australia will rid itself of the monarchy and become a republic. We will then have a president.

Auss has a precocious little PM called John Howard.

Mr I agree with everyone, providing George & Tony say so.

Hi Sophie,
Australia's political system is very much based on the English, It's called the Westminster system. We have a Prime Minister as the political leader, We have a Governor General, who is the Queens representative. We are independent of England but still part of the Commonwealth, which means the Queen of England is our head of state and also, some will refute, our commander in chief of our armed forces. Australians have been debating for some time now on the issue of becoming a republic. Then we would most likely have a president.

Australia, also known as the Commonwealth of Australia, has a Prime Minister. The nations capital is Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory. Each State has it's own Parliament as well as being governed by the Prime Minister.

Australia does not have a President like in the United States.

Our countrys elected political leader is known as the Prime Minister.
Our Head Of State is Queen Elizabeth II, her Australian representitive is the Governor-General.

The leader of the Senate or Upper House in Parliament, is known as the President of the Senate. This is not the same as the President of the United States.

The sites listed below may help you.

one day soon hopefully

Hi, I am guessing you mean A U S T R A L I A.
No at this point of time we don't have a President.
Our head of State is named "Prime Minister" and the head of the 5 states is named "Premier"
Our Two (2) main political parties are: Liberal and Labour, but have many less recognized parties.
It is compulsory to vote at all elections but Aussie's in general don't get involved in politics.
Hope this helps Waltz.

No we have a Prime Minister - John Howard

Angela
Yeah we have a president...his name is George W. Bush
Why do we have a president? Because our prime minister John Howard is his lapdog.
