Does everyone else in the world know about the bushfires in Victoria, Australia?

I live in Melbourne and they are like 30 minutes drive away from me..its scary to think that. Everyone in my class knows someone affected and its taking over the tv! Just wondering what country you are from and if you've heard about them.

i'm from california, USA and i've definitely heard about it, and i'm so sorry to hear what's been happening :(

i've actually been putting together things from home to sell, then putting that money towards the victims of the fires over there.

i'll be praying for you guys, definitely. we've had a BUNCH of fires the past 2 and a half years or so, so we definitely feel your pain

Frosty
I'm from the USA, and yeah we know about it. It's very sad, and now I've heard that they think arsonists have started a few of the fires. That's just sick. I hope they get under control soon, but in the meantime be safe.

It's top news in America... I think people are already setting up charity funds for those affected. (Temporary relief funds.)

It's on the news here. And It's also in the news in Germany.
SO! Most likely, It's globally.

My family is praying for everyone affected, and I'm sure a lot of people are hoping for the fire to end.

HanZ
yea, heard about it days ago on the news.

from USA

close to 200 have died, and they arrested two bastards for the torching off the forest.

two koalas name Sam and Bob became real close.

In NYC, there's a fund raiser at "The Australian Restaurant"

I live in Illinois (US) near Chicago. I have been watching tv (news) as well listening to the radio and I have heard of them. On Yahoo's home page, there is an article that they have a suspect in at least one of the fires

Keto
We live in Colorado, USA and read and hear about it constantly. It is so sad. We live in a dry area also, and just hope it doesn't happen here. We talk about the fires there every day.

thefrenchguy
ya!!
im in new zealand and its all over the news here
although i dont know much bout it coz i dont watch the news that much but from what ive heard its MASSIVE!!! like i thought all of victoria was gone but idk if tths true or not
omg i feel for you!!

te144
Yes, I've been hearing the reports and have read other messages here.

It's terrible that the fires are so difficult to put out and worse that over 300 people have died.

I assume that Aus has been very dry due to drought, which may be caused by global warming. I don't know why the world can't start taking measures to reduce emissions. I've cut down on driving but doubt that many others are doing the same. Of course, that's of little consequence to your nation. Can only wish you to stay safe.

I'm near Phila., Pa.

In New Zealand its the major news here! As its so close to home in many ways as we have so much association with Australia, there have been special donations set up, we are sending fire fighters and a huge helicoptor to help with fire fighting.....there is a lot of talk among people as well and our thoughts are with the people affected

I live in QLD, god bless all the people affected. It is scary to think about how lots of people have lost thier lives to people who think it's hilarious to light fires. I'm not sure about the rest of the world, but i think NZ does know because where both close countries and we share the same News channel. My cousins from New Zealand know about what has happened in Vic. Hope you don't have any family friends affected.

Can you please answer my question. Thanks.

I talk on a few game sites, and everyone is amazed about whats happened; and the all come from all over the globe.

Definitley, I live in New Zealand so naturally we hear alot about our friends across the ditch. Its so sad some of the stories emerging from the chaos. Yesterday, looking at the sun from my house in Dunedin, the smoke from the fires blocked out so much of the rays, it was possible to look at it like you would look at the moon.Amazing how far reaching the devastation from a tragtey like this reaches

I'm like 15 minutes away :(
Yeah, on the news they have showed how people around the world have reacted or something

reggae_music_lover
I have heard by internet and television of it and I hate that it is happening. Currently live in Colombia but am from the US.

A good majority of the poorer population of the world probably does not have television, internet, free media resources to know. The more modern population does.

There are a lot of things happening in the world that sadden other people but priorities for them might be life threatening for them.

I hope all gets better soon.

good luck

Currently in my Bangkok hotel and i've been flicking through news channels and its on UK, US, Various Asian and middle eastern channels. The Koala drinking water is being shown alot.

On a personal note I have a few friends who are volunteer firefighters in VIC and I'm worried about them and the people, property and animals they are fighting to protect.
