Generally no it doesnt get that cold in Aus. I live in Tassie which is said to one of the colder states but have never seen snow. If I wanted to see snow I would have to travel to the mountains (or go up Hobart's Mt Wellington) in Winter.

The coldest place in Tas is historically Liawenee which is up there in the middle of the cold "highlands" and while in the middle of winter it tends to get down to -5c or so (at night) the lowest that I can remember was a year or two ago when one night it got down to about -10c or something. Obviously the days are much warmer.

Even the cold parts of Aus dont have freeze your butt off kind of weather like they do in Europe or some part of US.

Yes depending on the time of year and where you are going. Our coldest months are from around May to August, with snow in parts of NSW and Victoria in the mountains. Tasmania also gets snow sometimes and very cold as well. Look at www.bom.gov.au for areas and averages.

Lowest recorded minimum in Australia was -23 C at Charlotte Pass in the Snowy Mountains.

It depends on where you are, try Tasmania's south coast. or the mountains in NSW.

It depends on what you mean by really cold.
In general, I'd have to say no it doesn't.
Especially in the tropics where it never gets really cold.

Charlotte Pass, NSW, owns the record for the lowest temperature ever recorded in Australia -23 degrees Celsius.

That would be an isolated incident, and not a regular occurrence.

Charlotte Pass
Average Winter temperatures: -7 degrees Celsius to 4 degrees Celsius
Average Summer temperature: 4 degrees Celsius to 17 degrees Celsius
Temperatures as low as -20C and as high as +34C degrees have been recorded in Charlotte Pass.

No, not like in Europe or America, most states in winter get down to about 5degs Celcius overnight and about 12-15 Degrees during the day, Places like Tasmania get colder, but nothing like 50Deg below as you get in Russia etc. I live in South Australia and the coldest it got last winter during the day was 12degs Cel.

kristarrz
it gets pretty cold in winter, just like any country. it all depends on where in australia u live. it can get pretty cold in the outback, thats where i live and it can get to 47 degrees in summer but can get to 1 degree in winter...crazy!
