Whoopee $100!

Australian Q & A
1. Q: Does it ever get windy in Australia? I have never seen it rain on TV, so how do the plants grow? (UK)
A: We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around watching them die.

2. Q: Will I be able to see kangaroos in the street? (USA)
A: Depends how much you've been drinking.

3. Q: I want to walk from Perth to Sydney - can I follow the railroad tracks? (Sweden)
A: Sure, it's only three thousand miles, take lots of water...

4. Q: Are there any ATMs (cash machines) in Australia? Can you send me a list of them in Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville and Hervey Bay UK)
A: What did your last slave die of?

5. Q: Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Australia? (USA)
A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe. Aus-tra-lia is that big island in the middle of the pacific which does not... oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every Tuesday night in Kings Cross. Come naked.

6. Q: Which direction is North in Australia? (USA)
A: Face south and then turn 90 degrees. Contact us when you get here and we'll send the rest of the directions.

7. Q: Can I bring cutlery into Australia? (UK)
A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do.

8. Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? (USA)
A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is...oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in Kings Cross, straight after the hippo races. Come naked.

9. Q: Do you have perfume in Australia? (France)
A: No, WE don't stink.

10. Q: I have developed a new product that is the fountain of youth. Can you tell me where I can sell it in Australia? (USA)
A: Anywhere significant numbers of tourists gather.

11. Q: Can I wear high heels in Australia? (UK)
A: You are a British politician, right?

12. Q: Can you tell me the regions in Tasmania where the female population is smaller than the male population? (Italy)
A: Yes, gay nightclubs.

13. Q: Do you celebrate Christmas in Australia? (France)
A: Only at Christmas.

14. Q: Are there killer bees in Australia? (Germany)
A: Not yet, but for you, we'll import them.

15. Q: Are there supermarkets in Sydney and is milk available all year round? (Germany)
A: No, we are a peaceful civilisation of vegan hunter gatherers. Milk is illegal.

16. Q: Please send a list of all doctors in Australia who can dispense rattlesnake serum. (USA)
A: Rattlesnakes live in A-meri-ca which is where YOU come from. All Australian snakes are perfectly harmless, can be safely handled and make good pets.

17. Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Australia, but I forget its name. It's a kind of bear and lives in trees. USA)
A: It's called a Drop Bear. They are so called because they drop out of gum trees and eat the brains of anyone walking underneath them. You can scare them off by spraying yourself with human urine before you go out walking.

18. Q: I was in Australia in 1969 on R+R, and I want to contact the girl I dated while I was staying in Kings Cross. Can you help? (USA)
A: Yes, and you will still have to pay her by the hour.

I can gurantee you that it rains in Australia. My family's entire water supply comes from two watertanks in our backyard which catch rain during the winter. Some parts of Australia are currently suffering from drought, but this is mostly in remote areas.

Of course it does! They even have huge areas of rainforest there.

The Australian continent is in the Southern Hemisphere and its seasons are the opposite of the Northern Hemisphere, i.e. summer in Europe and North America is winter in Australia. Broadly Australia has just two climatic zones, 40% of the continent is in the tropical zone, with the remaining regions south of the Tropic of Capricorn being in the temperate zone.
The tropical zone has two seasons: hot WET season from November to April, and warm dry from May to October. The temperate zones have four seasons: spring (September to November), summer (December to February), autumn (March to May) and winter (June to August). Due to its size, the weather across the continent can range from below zero temperatures in the Snowy Mountains to intolerable heat in the north-west.

Australia is considered to be one of the driest continents on earth, with the lowest rainfall after Antarctica. Snow is rare except in the Australian Alps, across the New South Wales and Victorian border, where skiing is possible between June and October. The Australian climate is also known for its extremes - cyclones along the coast, severe droughts inland and bushfires. The most pleasant seasons in most of Australia are spring and autumn,. For more information on Australian climate visit the Bureau of Meteorology http://www.bom.gov.au.

Yeah it does rain. I live in Central Australia near Alice Springs this is the desert region. We have had some really nice rain recently but it does not rain very often on average it rains 14 days of the year where i am.

Ducatifred
Sure does! Check out www.letsgotoaustralia.com and www.australia.com for free information on the weather in Australia.

Draw a line across Australia from about two thirds of the way up the WA coast, across north of Alice Springs and then down through NSW to the Victorian border on the coast. North of that line has a summer maximum rainfall, south of it has a winter maximum. Sydney and Melbourne have completely different climates.

Even though there is a drought at the moment in many areas, every part of Australia gets rain, even the deserts get it occasionally, and they are just getting over floods in north Queensland and the Northern Territory.

It does indeed rain.
Perhaps not so much at the moment, Australia's in the midst of a long drought... but both Melbourne & Sydney *enjoy* wet winters.

For weather info on Melbourne or Sydney, try the following links:

Best one here at the Australian Bureau of Meteorology:

Hope that helps...

Yes it does rain australia unless you live in the outback where there is a drought at the moment. I live in Sydney Australia and the past nights we have had rain as there has been a storm.

Of course it rains! What kind of a question is that? Although we are in the middle of a drought, that doesn't mean it doesn't rain, just that we haven't had enough.

Depends on where in Australia you are talking about.

I live in Brisbane (in South East Queensland) and it rarely rains here and we are in the midst of a 1 in 1000 year drought (i.e seriously bad). However most parts of North Queensland floods all throughout summer and get tropical cyclones each year.

The other major coast cities - Sydney, Melbourne, Perth tend to get moderate rainfall, but central of Australia tends to be really dry.

It rained where I am last night. Unfortunately, we need inches more rain to break this drought. It's the worst drought in 100 years. So, if you know any good rain dances, can you do one for us. We need all the help we can get.

Congratulations! You've won the bet.
What are you going to do with the $100?

~*~LoveMyztic~*~
Yeah, it rains everywhere(unless they have a drought...)
