Hi,
I have found that there is no difference in the taste of vegemite and marmite. They are both salty and it is an acquired taste. Marmite is a little sweeter and has a stronger taste though, whilst Vegemite has a less intense flavour. I should also mention that they are both products made out of yeast extract.
My partner smothers it all over his toast in the morning whilst I only put a little bit on the knife and spread it onto my toast so it blends into the melted butter.
Apparently, Marmite contains vitamin B12 and iron which vegemite doesn't contain, but in saying that Vegemite has riboflavin, thyamin & niacin.
I personally like Vegemite, but the only way you are going to know whether you like vegemite or not is to try it (just buy a small jar of it at first) |

Vegemite is an aquired taste, like olives or oysters. You have to be raised with it to really appreciate it.
I don't like Marmite but I love Vegemite. I was raised on the stuff.
Vegemite is very very high in vitamin B. Back in the Vietnam war, apparently Aussie soldiers could barter Vegemite for just about anything with the US soldiers. Since they were so highly stressed and deficient in vitamin B, they were desperate for the stuff, even if they hated the taste.
Best wishes |

Vegemite is better.
Note: The key to enjoying either vegemite or marmite is to spread it on the bread as thinly as you can. It is pretty potent stuff and can burn the roof of your mouth otherwise.
Vegemite on buttered toast is the traditional recipe.
Note 2: Yes, us Aussies always tell the Yanks to do the exact opposite of the above note, they're so gullible LOL. |

If you didn't like Marmite then you should probably forget about trying Vegemite.
They are similar in taste. I do prefer Vegemite, probably because it's what I was brought up on.
You do realise that you never, ever spread either of them thickly. Most people just have a scraping on bread, toast or cracker biscuits.
They are an aquired taste. |

Yes it is an aquired taste ,I really don't care for either and I'm Australian ,however every 10 years or so I have a craving and then it has to be with very fresh sliced bread and and just a smear of vegemite |

"Buying bread from a man in brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, do you speak-a my language?
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich........."
Yeah it's great. We love our vegemite here in Australia. It is rather an acquired taste though. Most of us Aussies have grown up with it & eat it on sanga's or toast.
I've tried Marmite & I don't like it that much. I like vegemite much more than Marmite. Yes. Vegemite tastes better than Marmite. |

Yes Vegemite tastes better to me, although I was brought up on Vegemite, marmite was only for emergency's when the Vegemite ran out. |

your rite marmite is nasty!!!
try either a lite smearing of Vegemite on toast or put some Vegemite on your bread with a slice of cheese on top then put it in the grill for a few minutes till the cheese melts
WARNING------ dont over do it with the vegemite, it has a very potent taste, you only need a little |

i've never liked vegimite
all of the above are an aquired taste and you only use a small amount. |

There is no substitute for vegemite. Marmite, Promite, nothing beats vegemite.
We're happy little vegemites, as bright as bright can be..... |

I love Vegemite and loathe Marmite, but you probably won't like either. I think that you need to acquire a taste for them as a child, though I have a couple of American friends who are now Vegemite addicts. Marmite is sweet and revolting whereas Vegemite is not at all sweet; it's just salty and savoury.
Try Vegemite on hot buttered toast (lots of butter) and take care to spread it sparingly. |

It is salty! Very salty.
But that is what it is. It is not pretending to be anything else BUT Vegemite. Whether it is good or not is up to you to decide. If you don't like it, it wouldn't make a difference if 99% of kids in Australia loves it. |

I don't like marmite but I do like vegemite. That being said they are very simular so you probably wouldn't like it. I like it on toast, not so much on bread.
One tip though - Vegemite is to be spread very very thinly, to the point where you can see the toast/bread through it. No one likes alot of vegemite.
You either love it or you hate it. |

Yes it has a complete different taste. I eat vegemite off the spoon. It is probably an Aussie thing but. |

Hey, krautpierogi,
Stick with sauerkraut and pierogi. Vegemite and Marmite, they're six of one half dozen of the other. BOTH NASTY. I may use them but it's only for a flavour boost in other dishes just like Maggi.
The Muse
P.S. The szynka with sauerkraut is in the fridge and the pierogi (potato & onion) are in the freezer. |
