Family moving to Australia? What would you advise? |
Im from the Uk and today my dad told me him and his partner are thinking of moving to Australia with their 2 children my step brother and sister who are 12 and 16. He has been offered a job there with my Uncle who has his own business. He's said me and my boyfriend are welcome to go along with them. The thing is im 18 and have been living with my boyfriend and we have a one year old together. I know she is only young but im not sure about taking her to another country to live. Whats it like there for young children? Would you say go along and give it a go or stay in the Uk? Additional Details I meant what is the childcare/schooling like is it very different to the Uk? |

I'm sure you will love it here once you get here, just like all the other UK people who move here and end up moving the whole family over because the weather is so much better. As for child care and schools, they are probably very much the same, so stop stressing and come on over. |

I am moving to Perth with my hubby and two kids in the next 6 months, he is being transferred from his UK rugby club over to a club in WA. I think it's a good idea for you to go over there for an extended holiday or say a month or so and see how you like it and how she settles in. We did this and loved it, now we can't wait to get over there to live. |

there would be no problem for your child living in Australia, schools, healthcare and activities are excellent. Different story for you though, on the plus side there are jobs, it is an English speaking country, great beaches, great weather but on the downside it is easy to get homesick as it is so far away so visits back home will be few and far between unless you have a lot of dosh so it can be hard to settle.
If you have nothing to lose then give it a try, the world is a big place and and it would be a great experience for you. If you afford it you can visit first.

You are FIIIIIIIIIT!
On a serious note, do not pass this chance up, Austrailia can and will offer you a life 10 times better that here in the UK, also it is one of the hardest countries to get a citizenship at so if you are able to get it because of your father finding work there, I would definately not pass this great oppurtunity up. Also I would say it is actually THE best place in the world to bring up kids, you can't say that about many places! |

Not sure what you think the problem is. Young children live in many countries without any problems. |

I'm sure u get free childcare in australia. Schools aren't much different, at least not in primary school. Australia would offer a better future for your child, especially since she is at a young age. Houses are cheaper and there is much much more jobs available. I would say give it a go for about a year or so then see what you think, but its entirely up 2 u. |

Just go there on a holiday when they go, no need to decide right away. You haven't mentioned if your boyfriend is of like mind. Australia is not a bad place to live, many of its peoples come from the UK. Depending on which city your family is going to, keep an open mind and go see for yourself. For the sake of the little one, you both have to decide what is the best for the three of you.
Mind you it is easier to live near or with family support. Australia speaks English, with its own brand of Aussie words. A little piece of the UK so no worries for you. See first decide later and pray for wisdom to choose what is best! |

For goodness' sake don't let this opportunity slip away. GO, while you've got the chance. What on earth has England to offer any young people these days, other than more and more taxation, higher and higher house prices, fewer jobs and lower wages as more and more come here from the poorer countries in the EU. |

I have some friends from New Zealand, who are travelling the world for the last few years with their 2 children who are now 6 and 4 - the kids are really well adjusted - so I wouldn't worry about the travelling part of it.
For me, the thing would be about living so far away from my family. I am doing it at the moment but not forever. |

Childcare & Schooling is a bit different to the UK, but in my view it is a good difference.
My daughter, although born in Britain, started school here in Australia, and I think it is the best move we could have done for her.
Childcare & Schooling is not free, but is subsidised by the governments here.
State schools may cost a couple of hundred dollars per year, and Private schools can be from $1,000 to $25,000 per year, although $4,000-$6,000 is a common annual figure.
Childcare cost depends on your income, and can be as low as $6 per day, or up to $100 per day, which I have heard of some high earners paying. |
