Google the area you want to move to there are so many websites about New Zealand. I recommend living in Auckland the people are friendly you can drive to beach or hang out in a trendy coffee shop. When you arrive at the airport go to the information desk they have lots of info on tours and local attractions. Take a few tours and get to know the area
