I have lived in Australia, and currently live in New Zealand. I have also visited a wide range of nations such as Fiji, England, Canada etc.
I would have to say no - Australia is perhaps the most unpleasant country I have ever visited or lived in. It is a hot, dry and barren nation. Climate change can only make this worse.

It is filled with racism, and a vicious police force. People have commented on the 'police state' mentality and suggested police corruption for a long time.

Then you must think about the wildlife: deadly spiders everywhere, deadly snakes everywhere, sharks, swooping magpies, deadly jelly fish - the list goes on. |

I love Australians. Aussies are probably the nicest people in the world and the country is just magnificent. |

I live in Australia and truly - It is the most beautiful country.
We have long sandy beaches and gorgeous tropical coral reefs.
You definitely have to visit Queensland, but not just the Gold Coast but all around. Also, in Victoria, go out into the country and experience the true heart of the place.
Hope that helped :) |

I live here and I think it's wonderful. It would be a really good place to visit, but you would need a lot of time because all the different places have a different variety of things and it would take a while to see them all, or at least a good range. There are lots of different places to go depending on what you want to see.

I live in Australia and think it's wonderful. I absolutely love it and don't think I'd be this happy living anywhere else.
I agree that you need a longer holiday if you want to see lots of this beautiful country, because there are so many vastly different places. From the gorgeous sandy beaches, perfect weather and Great Barrier Reef of Queensland, to the bustling city of Sydney with the famous Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, to the Aussie outback including Uluru, to the amazing remote rainforests in Tasmania - there is so many things to see and do! Plus we're all so laid back and friendly. I definitely recommend Australia to anyone wanting a good time. |

HEHEHE i just read the reply warning of all the terrible creatures here.. I am an Australian. I have never been swooped by a magpie, although they do it, in certain seasons. I have never been up close and personal with a deadly spider. I have lived the last 3 years in a small country town.. no deadly anyhting!
The police I have encountered have all been helpful, caring, and professional.
Racism is evident everywhere, but to be honest, I have never witnessed or heard of any extreme scenarios where I am.
I will tell you, summer here is very hot, and very dry.
Kangaroos sometmes sit on the road in rural areas.
I really can't think of any overly negative things about Australia, but if I do, I'll add them. |

I've been to Brisbane and the Gold Coast and up in the mountains, specifically Mount Warning. We thought it was a little two hour hike and it took us 8 to get up there and about 2 to get down. We thought we were dying. Puff...Puff. Loved Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef was absolutely the best. I loved the snorkeling from the boat and was always the last one back on the boat. The people were friendly and hospitable. I'd go back in a minute if airfares were cheap and I could get myself psyched for the long, long air flight. That was the worst part of all. Everything else was a thumbs up. |

I'm an aussie in Melbourne, Victoria.
I love my country and despite what some people are saying, the majority of people here have never had a bad experience with dangerous animals, the police or anything else for that matter.
Australia is a very diverse country. From north to south, east to west there is always something different to see and the climate is also very different depending on where you are at particular times of the year. From out tropical rainforests and sandy beaches, to our mountain ranges and deserts there is something here for everyone.
I love Australia because I can go wherever I want to go to see something different. Some folks sell up their houses and just travel around Australia for years on end.
We are also a very multicultural country and you will find people from all races and nations living here which is great.
Maybe you can log onto some Aussie tourism sites to see the various places you can go.
A great way to get around cheaply for the traveller is to take interstate buses or trains as our cities are reasonable distances apart. You will find that you encounter many travellers from overseas here at any given time. Depending on your budget you can stay in hostels which are really cheap or in really nice motels, maybe even caravan parks.
Check out our country some more and I think you will be convinced that a trip to beautiful Australia is well worth it.
Depending on when you come, you might want to avoid country Victoria for a while as we have just had the worst bushfires on record and it will take time for our area to come back to something that resembles normal life, in townships and our forests, as beautiful as they were. |
