Going to AUSTRALIA next year, can anyone recommend?

What about cairns and Ayers Rock? Both unmissable in my opinion. Cairns has the barrier reef which is a must see and Ayers Rock for seeing the rock at sunrise and sunset.
Brisbane is great. be sure to visit late Steve Irwin's zoo as it's fab. Also if you like theme park then go to the Gold coast and visit Dreamworld. Also if time allows take the ferry to either Frazer Island or Moreton island...stunning!
Sydney is so clean. Make sure you do the bridge climb, visit centre-point tower, shopping malls, Botanical gardens, do a lunch/evening cruise of the harbour and also do a day at the Blue Mountains.
We did 4 weeks seeing Sydney, Melbourne, Ayers Rock, Cairns and Brisbane with a stop over in Fiji. Was the trip of a life time but my favourite places were Queensland and Ayers Rock. If you do go to Ayers Rock then be sure to do the "sounds of silence dinner" It's an experience you will never forget.

Melbourne
Very cultural city with cute cafes and great nightlife. Visit Brunswick St, St Kilda and Johnson St The Italian area is Lygon St and worth a visit as well. If you can, get south to visit Phillip Island and the fairy penguins. It is a day trip from Melbourne. Otherwise if you can spare a few days, the drive along the Great Ocean Road is spectacular.

Brisbane
Not much going in this city. The attractions of Queensland are the beaches and rain forests. Don't spend any unnecessary time here.

Queensland
So much to do! Cape Tribulation in the north of Cairns is a heritage listed rain forest which spills onto unspoilt beaches. Take a day trip to the Great Barrier Reef, try to get a deal to stay on an island - if you have the money go to Hayman Island. Noosa is a good place to learn to surf.

Sydney
The Harbour of course, Bondi, Glebe, Newtown. Forget Darling Harbour - it is a tourist trap. A ferry to Manly is fun and gets you onto the harbour for about $8.00. If you get a chance to head north, I would recommend Byron Bay (about 9 hours drive). It is a beautiful paradise and also another place to learn how to surf.

I wouldn't reccomend going to Brisbane, yes it is an established city, it's very nice with good weather, but it isnt really for the tourists, Other parts of Queensland are great.

Perth is the most beautifull city we have, you would be missing out if you never saw it.

Cairns, Great Barrier Reef, Hartley's Crocodile Park, Daintree Rainforest's, Karunda Railway and sky train, the aboriginal experience, eat at either Rattle and Hum on the Esplanade or The Pier, both do excellent meals inexpensively.

Sydney, The Opera House, The Harbour Bridge and if your brave enough you can walk over it, take a ferry ride to Manley as you get brilliant photo opportunities of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, the Botanical gardens, the zoo, lots of lovely places to eat at, we ate at Doyle's fish restaurant, a bit pricey but so worth it.

Melbourne, Port Phillip for the Fairy Penguin Parade of an evening, St Kilda beach, Torquay beach, the Great Ocean Road to see the Apostles, Yarra river cruise, Rialto Tower for photo opportunities of Melbourne city, Port Melbourne, Federation Square, the city in general, we didn't eat in the city centre as my cousin lives in Melbourne so stuck to local restaurants close to her home but there are some lovely restaurants in Melbourne.

Have a wonderful time, I absolutely loved Australia and would go back tomorrow, amazing place with wonderful people.

Just north of Brisbane you have Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo and also Underwaterworld at Mooloolabah. About 1 hour south of Brisbane you will find Movieworld, Seaworld, Dreamworld, The Outback Spectacular and a few water attractions.

Bondi is nice. There is a great walk along the coast line, past a big cemetary which leads to other secluded beaches. Make sure you walk the Bridge in Sydney, at night if possible.

You will have a great time, but three weeks is just not long enough to see all there is to see. Wish i was going again, only got to see Perth area when I went for three weeks last year.

Heya,
don't get me wrong, Australian cities are wonderful, but they are just cities. Why people travelling from overseas to Australia and just look at cities is beyond me.

Don't you want to see a piece of the Outback? The red dust and and the wide open spaces? That's where the real Australia is, in my opinion.

So start in a city, end the trip in the city, but in between, go and see the Outback. You won't regret it.

I reckon the Blue Mountains, outside of Sydney, but avoid going out after 6pm.

Port MacQuarie (halfway between Sydney and Brisbane) is fabulous - tropical rainforest and smashing beaches. Kayaking on the mangrove swamps under 250,000 fruit bats was good, the Koala Hospital is there, and you might be able to go microlighting as well. I loved it when I went a couple of years ago - would go back tomorrow if I could.
