both places are safe so dont worry for that!!! and i think its a great idea to go on your own, since you'll meet so many people on your way that ull make the most of it!
i would suggest going on a sort of tour in both places, in australia theres that "oz experience" (www.ozexperience.com) and in nz you've got "kiwi experience" (www.kiwiexperience.com). These are hop-on hop-off bus tour passes, so u just chose the area u wanna travel and then forget about getting public transport or driving on your own! bus drivers help u also to book your accomodation at a backpackers everyday, and extra activities (diving, skydiving, black water rafting, kayaking, day trips, etc) so thats also cool and easy.
have a look at both websites and see what suits u better!!
if u can afford it, go to both countries, coz they are completely different even though they are quite close! try to spend a month in each if u can...
relax and enjoy!! |

australia is where I live, yes both are very safe places in most parts, like anyother country there are at least some bad places but if you wanted a friend to come along it would be funner. |

australia is probably safer then all of europe south america africa and north america and some middle eastern countries
new zealand is the same
the only reason you would need to bring someone is so that you can both have fun xD |

They are both safe places to go but just keeps you're wits about you. I travel by myself all the time and here a couple of guidelines I live by:
- Don't drink too much whilst you're out
- Don't walk the streets at night - catch a cab, you're life and safety is worth the fare
- Become friends with the staff at the hostel so they look out for you if you're staying at a hostel.
- when it comes to touring - I do group touring because that way I'm always in a safe environment and the guide has my back.
When you travel by yourself you are more open to meeting new people and friends and you have the freedom to do what you want when you want. Drawbacks, sometimes you don't have someone there to share the experience with |

Both safe and both dangerous. NZ is better for a short trip for spectacular scenery, Australia is the far better choice for a longer trip and parties. 2 months you can cover all of NZ & the main tourist parts of Oz. Always better to travel with someone, but if you are a smart traveler, and keep your wits about you, and don't get blind spastic drunk, you will be fine. Don't take pills, they are made by bikie gangs and toxic. E's aren't e's, they are drain cleaner. |
