Good place to stay in sydney with Family?

Hi
I am searching for an accommodation in Sydney. It seems the prices are very high in Sydney city, so decided to move somewhere inside with easy access to transport. Can you pls provide the details of the following places - are those places safe to stay with family?
1) Summer Hill
2) Campsie
3) Canterbury
4) Ashfield
5) Burwood.

Also, is there any specific palce to avoid. I heard Redfern is not a good place.

Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks a lot....

Have lived in Campsie...its good place...& also Strathfield ( really close to Burwood) - its good as well...as far as i can tell Burwood , Ashfield & Summer Hill r quite safe...Dont know about canterbury, but havent really heard about it being "unsafe"...
By the way Campsie , Ashfield & Burwood (& strathfield) have a no. of Indians staying there ( I am assuming u r one from ur name)...so basically good options of Indian restaurants & groceries stores in these areas....
Yeah, even I have heard abt redfern...& newtown also....better to avoid...
but by & large Sydney is quite a safe place....
All the best !

ANA
Why not try the Metro Inn at Edgecliffe. Around 89 dollars a night for a double not sure of other room rates. It is only two stops and six minutes on the train and about 10 minutes on the bus from outside the station. Very convenient for the city and you are near to Double Bay, Rushcutters Bay and Darling Point. A very nice area.
