I have just emigrated to Oz four weeks ago from Leeds, Yorkshire, UK. Expect a long wait - 20 months maximum. Expect to have to prove any qualifacations you have, you have to be skilled. Expect to have to be young enough (below 45) and be healthy (full medical). Also police checks.
The first thing to do is to fill out the points calculator on the Australian immigration site to see if you qualify to apply for a visa to be able to work over in Oz.
To be honest, nothing is different over here in Oz. There are still the same problems that we have in the UK. So, if its a case of getting out of UK, then you will find Oz to be very similar in its issues (i.e. immigration, crime, China/India taking jobs, expensive house prices, terrorism etc.)
But, best of luck - at least the weather over here in Oz is a little better (but then again, its drought season/with typhoons in Western Australia and bushfires in Victoria).

Contact the Australian Embassy and ask them what requirements you need. Australia has a large influx of immigrants lately, so, barring an exploratory holiday, which is expensive--the flight takes about three days to get there, make sure you get particulars first. It is not easy to just get up and move to a place unless you have checked the seven P's:
proper, prior , planning, prevents, piss, poor, performance.

You're better finding out if the skills you have are needed in Australia.
I don't think it's that easy getting into Australia as it is getting into the UK - they'll let anyone in the UK as we all know LOL
It's more a case of what you can offer the country as opposed to what the country can offer you!
Here's a link to see if you could qualify https://www.migrationexpert.com/content/immigration_australia.asp?fid=100037&q=Australia%20Emigration&OVRAW=emigrating%20to%20australia&OVKEY=australia%20emigration&OVMTC=standard |

Check out immi.gov.au that site tells you about the types of visas available and also what trades are in demand.
If you have a trade that has a shortage of workers you should find it relatively easy to get a migrants visa.
But before you take the big step why not first go to oz on an eta (tourist visa) to see if you like the country, and what part of oz you would like to relocate to as it is a huge country with vast variations in climate/states. |

Aloha from Down Unda!
You might wanna visit before you commit! It's better than England weatherwise but then there's a severe lack of services.
You might be tempted to try the USA - Texas, Arizona, California or Nevada.
We've been here six years after 23 yrs in Honolulu, trying to escape the high cost of living there but it's not cheap here either! Seriously considering another transplant back to the good ole USA, Las Vagas!
As we get older, it's important to be able to enjoy our lives without the hassles incurred with no concept of 'service', poor television, lousy shopping & this twang is driving us up the walls!
Your 'skills' might be honed for loftier goals than Australia. Sadly, it's all 'pie in the sky'. 8-(
