Generally the following is taken into account.
Criminal Record
Cash you have in the Bank
Personal Debt
Education
Skills
I know two people who have tried to relocate there.
One and ex soldier and a university qualified electrical engineer, married to a nurse, they had over £150,000 in the bank after selling their house, they had no debt...they were accepted into the country with no problems
The other was university qualified mechanical engineer, married, he found out his wife owed £15,000 on credit cards when they tried to relocate...they were told to come back when they sorted their debt problems out
What i'm getting at is they take all aspects of your life into account and see what you have to offer the country, if what you can offer the country outweighes what you could potentially take from them then they will probably let you in but you will never know until you speak to their immigration department.

He was going to be a lawyer but got sent to somerfield by the dhss and works on the cheese counter on the iow if you want to ask him more.
