I grew up in Hamilton and it is BORING. Seriously. There are much better places to stay in NZ. I've seen a kiwi in the bush but it was pretty lucky. You don't just see them running around everywhere. You can see them at the zoo too. |

hamilton is quite a nice town. i stayed there for 3 weeks and it was a good base to go to auckland rotorua, coromandel peninsula, raglan, etc and the town itself was lovely.... it is quite small but it has a great range of restaurants, bars and shops. it has a reasonably sized university there which adds to the town atmosphere and population. as i said, i just stayed there 3 weeks, not sure about living there, but did meet lots of cool people there.... have seen a kiwi in the zoo there |

Hey give Hamilton a break. I'm a Waikato girl at heart and there's nothing wrong with it!!! After all Auckland lost the V8 supercar series to Hamilton because they couldn't get their crap together and Raglan (not far from Hamilton) is a great beach to check out the surf and guys. Darn sight better than Ponsonby Road!
Yes I have seen a Kiwi. |

Hamilton is a lovely city, lots to do and see and is in close proximity to the surrounding towns and coastal towns of Raglan and Tauranga. However, Hamilton does seem to have the worst weather conditions, it's always wet and cold and winters are lousy!
I've seen a Kiwi bird at the Zoo. |

I have seen Kiwis in real life. They are nocturnal from memory and do not do very much. There are no mammals in New Zealand except those that were introduced. The Maori dog has been absorbed by cross-breeding.
Hamilton is a pleasant city with nice buildings, but the big smoke in New Zealand is Auckland. Hamilton was where the modern jet boat took form. It is an interesting case, but Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch are more interesting, in my view. |

Hamilton's ok if you like Hamilton.
Yes to the Kiwi; I have my own pet one and fly with her around the park with my hang glider. They are not very fast fliers, especially in daytime as they prefer to be out only at night.

No to the first part....although I have heard its a reasonably "boring" city, in that its big enough for some things, but its not really like Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch (the "main" centres), however many people love it there too.....so I guess it depends on what you like....
To the second part, yes I have seen a kiwi...I even held a 2 day old chick when I worked at the Department of Conservation and one was bright in to be shipped off to an island to allow it to grow in "peace".....it was sooooooo cute (its just a minature kiwi!) |
