Good states to go to: Queensland (rainforests, great barrier reef, rock walks and the list goes on + the fun stuff like theme parks, beach & wild nights) and Tasmania (just a beautiful gem isle)

Both have absolutely beautiful natural wonders.

I like Australia and am going to see it all before I start travelling the world...

Don't go to Sydney, it's crap

There is plenty to see.
Australia is bigger than the whole of North America!
You can stay on a cattle ranch like El Questro Station, or visit the Ningaloo Reef at Coral Bay Resort, see the Bungle Bungles, Wolfe Creek Crater, Ayres Rock, Kalbarri canyons, Kalgoorlie, Snowy Mountains, Great Barrier Reef, Pinnacles Desert, go down into giant caves at Margaret River, or climb the massive Karri trees at Pemberton.

Depending on how adventurous you and your family are, you might want to consider a trip to the outback?
It's not all desert, and I took a 3 week driving trip from Sydney to Bathurst, White Cliffs (opal mining town), Broken Hill (old mining town with tonnes of history and GORGEOUS scenery), and then came into South Australia through the Flinders Ranges, took the Great Ocean Road (SA and VIC coastal road which is equally as gorgeous) then the eastern coast roads back up to Sydney. It was about 4,500kms in total of driving but it was amazing.
There are also some lovely places to visit inbetween Sydney and Melbourne like the farming towns. I would recommend Berry & Bega where you could find a B&B to stay in. Eden is a cute little fishing town on the road between Melbourne and Sydney too. The distances between the eastern cities by road is about 13 hours including rest breaks, so you can usually drive between Brisbane and Sydney or Sydney and Melbourne within a day and a half or two days each. But domestic airfares are cheap too, so you can even have a weekend getaway on the Gold Coast if you want.
One more outback recommendation, Mungo National Park near Broken Hill, which is rich in Aboriginal history that you might enjoy, and you can camp there too. I haven't been there yet, but it is high on my list of places to go. Tasmania is also a place of natural beauty and you can hire a car there and tour around the towns (I haven't been, but my parents have three times, and loved it).
If you're really stuck, try looking up some place names on Google Image search to get a feel for the type of place you want to visit.
Once you know what you want to come and see, you can probably find tour groups that take you everywhere without worrying about getting lost. I hope you enjoy your stay in Australia!

Australia is a BIG place - as big as the continental USA. There are so many different places to see that will absolutely amaze you. Some of the places have already been mentioned. But don't try to see all that in 2 weeks. You won't be able to.
Remember - this is a BIG place. There's a lot of travelling involved if you want to see everything.
Think also in term of what climate you want to be in. The northern part is hot and gets milder in winter - but can be very cold at night. Southern parts can be quite cold. We even have snow fields here.

DO more research and ask more specific questions. Then decide how long much you can afford, how long you want to stay and where you want to go.
Just remember that this is AUSTRALIA - it is NOT your country so don't expect thing to "be like home" and be willing to accept different culture and be adaptable.
(Way too many tourist come here and complain why things can't be like "home" - well., if it is like home why bother coming here)

I live in West Australia so I would have to say WA! There are beautiful things to visit in all states though. WA has some fantasic gorges up North and forests down South. And beaches galore.

WA is rather large to visit everything in one trip so perhaps a visit to the eastern states may be better initially as everything is closer. Suggest Melbourne (Victoria) for the shopping, tours along great ocean road, trips to the snow and mountains, historical things etc. Have fun on your vacation wherever you go.

If you really want to experience Australia, I wouldn't recommend spending a lot of time in the big cities (such as Sydney and Melbourne). Yes, they are great cities, but you can see a city anytime. Same thing with Amusement parks - yours are probably better than ours anyway! Instead, visit some places that are so unique to Australia and you won't see anywhere else! There are wonderful things to do in each state.

A few things that I would recommend:
- Central Australia - Alice Springs, Coober Pedy, Ayers Rock (Uluru), the Olgas
- Great Barrier Reef and north Queensland
- Great Ocean Road
- Australia Zoo
- Flinders Ranges
- some of our beautiful beaches!

Yes, come to Australia. Australia is huge so you may not be able to visit everywhere. Uluru, The great barrier reef, Sydney and Melbourne are great places to visit.Hope this helps!

go to Sydney it is rele kool. the only downside to Australia was the plane ride but I LOVED AUSTRALIA

Basically there are three rough holiday choices depending on your interests.

1. Tourist Australia - Visit Queensland, Sydney, Melbourne. September - October is a nice time, I suggest starting at QLD and working your way down as Melbourne will be nicer closer to summer. You should allow 4-6weeks to get a decent experience.
The easiest way to travel between these cities is to fly as they are around a 9hour drive apart. Look for cheap flights through Virgin Blue, they often offer $49 flights. Don't trust Jetstar.

2. Outback Australia - Darwin, Alice Springs. Weather is these places is incredible warm, I suggest June as even at the coldest the temps are still in the 30s. Again 4 weeks would make a decent time frame. Outback Australia will definitly give you a difference experience.

3. Extended Australia or Real Australia - Western Australia, Adelaide, Tasmania, see how Australians live without the touristy aspect. Real Australians in real towns. Perhaps a week to 10days in each. You could add this to the other trips if you like.

Or if you have the finances and time, spend 3 months and do the lot!

yes. i live in Australia. It's great :) . Come to Sydney. It's got the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and plenty of other beautiful tourist attractions. Luna Park is good fun too :). and Sydney's shops are great. You might even want to have lunch at the Hilton Hotel ;) .

born & raised! try going to as mutch places possible to get the best out of it like Melbourne,Sydney,the gold coast,movie world,wet & wild,sea world,dream world,its like disney world! they are amusment parks,you`ll have the best time! you can go scuba diving!,surfing,have a great time at any beach!, luna park in Melbourne,its pretty fun! the zoo!(we have the best animals!) musems, so mutch ou can do!
