Been there? I was born there!
I live in NJ these days. You can fly to Sydney from Philla in 21 hours. The weather is warm to hot from late spring to mid fall, cool (but not cold) and damp the rest of the year.
Sydney and Brisbane / Surfer's Paradise are probably the best places to visit. Bring a swim suit or three, and good sunblock!
PS: We don't care what race you are - we're used to Asians, and there are almost no black people there (apart from the Aborigines - and there aren't really all that many of them, either.
Be warned: it's expensive. But well worth the trip. |

lived in oz for a year just out of high school - it was a blast. i worked in a wine shop & travelled as much as possible. people were great, food was awesome, weather was wonderful (except when it rains in sydney, it REALLY rains), plane was 22 hrs from toronto.
top things done:
great barrier reef
fraser's island
circular quay
bbq king in sydney's china town (GREAT chinese food)
blue mountains
ku-ring-gai chase national park
any of sydney's beaches (bondi, dee why, palm)
tarongo zoo
drinking a lot of wine (wishing tree & flinder's bay are tops!)
like the aussie said, it's wicked expensive, but worth every penny. can't wait for a return trip!
(and i don't think i saw any rascist behavoir while i was there, although i'm sure someone somewhere might be a bigot. i didn't meet him, though, just the really friendly people.) |

I've bee to Australia a several times, crossed the country from east to west, almost from south to north, so I stayed in many towns.
It takes me 24 hours to get there (from Germany), that's the non-fun part of the trip. Being in Australia is always fun, regardless were I am. But I prefer the country towns to the big cities.
Weather has been mostly good during Aussie autumn or spring.
Dream on, perhaps your dream comes true some day. Australia sure is the land of my dreams. |

Australians are no more racist than any other country in the world!!! I am part Asian and didn't experience racism!
I love Australia - I was there for 3 and a half months and the weather was excellent the entire time! Best place i've ever been to on the planet. I visited Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Sydney, The Great Barrier Reef and Geelong among other places. The worst part of the trip was the end when I had to come back to the UK!
I hope you will be able to go one day! =) |
