Steve Irwin was buried at a private funeral service at his Australia Zoo on Saturday last week

The 44-year-old wildlife expert was laid to rest in a campfire service attended by friends and family who shared their favorite stories of his life, as lse.co.uk notes.

"It was what he would have wanted and it put some final closure to his life", said Steve's father, Bob Irwin.

"I don't think you can ever fill that void. I'll remember Steve as my best mate. He was like my big brother, he was my hero", said Wes Mannion, director of the Australia Zoo, who paid tribute to Steve and who he described as a " 100 miles per hour" guy.

A public memorial service for the late TV star will be held either today, September 12 or tomorrow, September 13 at Brisbane 's Suncorp Stadium.

Steve's friend and manager John Stainton believes the ceremony would be a "celebration" more than a mourning session, saying: "Steve would not have wanted us to have everyone around crying and saying how sad it was."

Steve's widow Terri and their two children, Bindi and Bob are set to make their first public appearance after the tragedy at the memorial service.

am also UK but I can tell you that the family had a private funeral. There is going to be a medium sized service in the zoo for him soon which is going to be shown live on Australian and American TV. No mention of us doing anything here - which is irritating and a bit of a shame.

looksadpaper
Yes Steve has been laid to rest in a private, family funeral and buried on the property of Australia Zoo.
They will be having a public memorial at the Zoo on Wednesday

No, it will be in a few days, they are holding two, one at the zoo and have given out invitations to both memorials. They were gone in 15 mins. It will be televised, look in your listing for your area. Such a shame.

A private service for friends and family was held 9 September on the grounds of Australia Zoo.

The public service will be held this Wednesday at the “Crocoseum” amphitheater of the Australia Zoo

Yeah. He was laid to rest last week and the mormorial is next Monday or Tuesday.

Its going to be hard to get around as we live a few kilomeaters from the zoo!

There were 3000 free tickets as the "Crocosium" has 3000 seats. All the tickets were gone in half of one hour!
