Oh my goodness, what a question!!!

Where the hell have you been living in the last 200 years?

As a reminder I only want to mention:
Melbourne had the Olympic games in 1956!
Sydney got them 44 years later in 2000!
And Melbourne used to be the capital city of Australia while Canberra had been designed and built.

You better should have a look in some history books.

Of course I have. Most people I know who've gone to Aus have told me to skip Sydney and go for Melbourne instead :)

Good on you, Anthony, but maybe we should keep it quiet, as our population here in Melbourne is booming faster than infrastructure and services can cope with.... Not to mention the skyrocketing house and land prices.

Of course!

I went to Australia a few years ago and I was so bummed I didn't get to go there. I actually live in Melbourne, Fl, USA, so when I tell people who don't know me where I'm from, they are always like "Australia?!?" I wish...

Bottom line, though- most people I know know about Melbourne, Australia.

I can understand you asking this question. Even my friends from interstate have a problem with Sydney hype. The problem stems from Kerry Packer - Television stations 9 7 & 10 are based in Sydney & the number plates say NSW - First State.
But think of this!!! Where was the first of all these things in Australia? Grand Prix, Aussie Rules, Federal Parliament, Olympics, World Exhibition & a few things that other states are yet to have. Deaflympics, VFL Grand Final, The Race That Stops A Nation, Aussie Open Tennis, Worlds Largest Standard Guage Rail Network. It is also close to some lovely places - Country Victoria, South Australia & Tasmania.

Been there at least 5 times but I'm from NSW..

Third world countries wont know of Melbourne nor will those that are too ignorant to learn anything outside their own country (mostly Americans).
