Ashley

Have you been to Australia?

If you've been to Australia, can you tell me what some of your favorite parts of Australia have been? I'm going to Australia next summer, and I want to have an idea of what could be some interesting places, or activities there.

Personally I love North Queensland. The more north you go, the more laid back and friendly people are.

To Skip, if you think Townsville is "Redneck", you haven't seen anything. Townsville is metropolitan compared to Goondiwindi and westward.

It all depends on your interests...as has already been mentioned there's Australia Zoo as well as The Great Barrier Reef with amazing coral outcrops & tropical fish...it stretches for over 1000k's .

Then you have Sydney with its' harbour foreshore , harbour bridge & opera house...not to mention its' bustling cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Next Melbourne with ....heck , what exactly has Melbourne got ? Okay ...trams , the largest Greek population outside Greece , lousy weather , great food & enough places to shop till u drop !

Then there are places like Ullurru...the humungous rock in the desert , wine areas scattered around the country , tropical experiences with rain forests ....

If you want any details email me....

I'd like to think that being born here and living my entire life here qualifies me as having been here.

I've been to Sydney, Australia 3 times. Too bad I was too young to remember anything... But I remember there's this beautiful bridge that archs a body of glistening water... it's called the Sydney Bridge, and in front of this bridge is the beautiful Opera House

Yes, I live here and it's the best place in the world to live.

Here are some of the things to do: -

Queensland - you have the warmer weather, lots of swimming. There is Australia Zoo (ie Bindi Irwin), Seaworld, Dreamworld and Warner Bros world. You have the beautiful rainforest's, marine life - great scuba diving, whale watching and lots more.

Northern Territory - you have Uluru and the outback and aboriginal culture, ballooning over Alice Springs,

Western Australia - you have Pinnacles, Broome camel riding, Margaret River winery.

South Australia - you have more wineries, Kangaroo Island with seals.

and many more - please refer link

I've lived in Australia all my life and I love it! We've got everything here from mountain climbing to deep sea diving.
NSW is great for a lot of tourist type activities like climbing the Harbour Bridge, visiting Taronga Zoo (it's open for sleepovers in the summer) winery tours in the Hunter Valley and dolphin/whale watching further north at places like Forster.
QLD is all sun, surf and kicking back. You've got the Great Barrier Reef, Australia Zoo, Gold Coast and far north the beautiful Daintree.
NT is where you'll find alot of indigenous history such as Ulura (used to be known as Ayers Rock), Kings Canyon and the Devils Marbles. It's extremely hot here in summer and I mean HOT.
WA is just brilliant. Great for dolphin watching and feeding at Monkey Mia, there's a wonderful wine area called Margaret River and you can't go past Perth, their capital city. The Red Bull air race is held in Perth every November and is a great visit. The further north you go in WA the hotter and more remote it is. If this is your thing make sure you visit Parraburdoo and Tom Price. Both these places will give you an idea of what remote is.
SA is famous for it's wines at the Barossa Valley. The capital city is Adelaide and is also known as the city of churches. It's really quite beautiful. If diving with Great White Sharks is your thing get yourself to Port Lincoln. I've dived there with the Great White's and it was totally awesome.
VIC is famous for Melbourne and that's about it....only kidding....the shopping is fantastic in Melbourne as is the multicultural food and they have some great sporting events there too especially tennis and AFL.
TASSIE is our little "apple isle." The weather is alot cooler here. Lots of great nature on the west coast. If you get down here make sure you visit the Cadbury factory in Hobart. Yum.
Because you're coming in summer make sure you visit some of our beautiful beaches too.
The places I've mentioned here are just the ones I've been to.
I really hope you have a great holiday when you get here. It's a great place and I reckon we're a pretty friendly mob.

I went to Australia in June for a few weeks and enjoyed it, except for the exchange rate (.96 at the time). I went a few places . . .

Brisbane - Went to the Australian Zoo (short drive) and downtown, great river that goes through town . . . lots of nice places to eat.

North of Brisbane - Townsville - A little on the redneck side of Australia, but Magnetic Island is right off the shore. It takes a nice boat ride to the island where you can rent island buggies, stay in nice places for reasonable prices, and even play golf. We rented a big house for 10 of us and we had our own bay, absolutely beautiful.

North of Townsville - Cairns - Cool drive from Townsville to Cairns, stopped and saw a cool waterfall in a rainforest habitat. In June, the sugar cane gets close to harvest and the fields blanket the land. In Cairns you can tour the rain forests and the small touristy communities, but also scuba/snorkel off the Great Barrier Reef. Boat rides out there are reasonable for a day trip. We stayed at a hotel that had an ocean view and I wouldn't have done it any different. The sunrises were amazing and the rooms are interesting as well.

I would have stayed in Cairns a few more days if I had to do it all over again. Enjoy your trip!

Yes, I have been there. I had a lot of fun.

My favorite part was snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. I had so much fun. (Just try not to get sea sick!)
