Im an Australian currently living in the US and hands down, I will be moving back to Australia in the future and will never call the US home...no matter how long i live here...

there is nothing "wrong" with the US, as such...its just that Australia is such a great place to live and its really not comparable to the US...

Australians are just a totally different type of people....of course you get a**holes everywhere, but i find they are few and far between overall. in the US, there seems to be a lot of judgmental people, not to say that i havent met many that are not that way and i even have a few people that are nice enough that i would consider them to be friends...

The U.S. is so diverse, you can't really categorize it as one way with a certain type of people. We are NOT all White and rich. I come from a cultural Hispanic city and I assure you, its not like tv shows about the U.S. Yes, I want to raise my kids here.

I am (right now) living in Paris, France. Normally I live in Indiana - and yes...I love it.

I'll be coming home June 19th, and I 'm very happy and excited. I love the U.S.,and it is the place that I want to settle down and have children in (if I ever have kids that is...haha).

Where are you living now in the U.S.? For me, of course there are some places that I don't feel that I'd want to settle down in and raise a family (in the U.S.). That is true of every country though I think.

Everyone is different. I've never been to Australia, although I hear it is pretty nice. If you want to go there maybe you should. Perhaps you will find that you miss the U.S. - maybe not...

When I left the U.S. for London (and now Paris) I was so happy because I wanted a change. I don't particularly like the administration that is in power right now (in the U.S.) and I was excited for some international experience. However, I've now discovered, that although I love Europe, nothing can quite replace my good ol' Indiana (and my country in general). The U.S.A. isn't perfect (by any means), but it has a character that I haven't found anywhere else, and I wouldn't switch up for anything in the world.

Let me put it this way to you....I was born and raised in the US and we are moving to live permanently in NZ as that is where my husband grew up and his family is. A lot of people ask my 'why I would ever want to live anywhere else', to which I usually reply, "How much time you have?"

JMHO but in the last 10 years I have seen changes in this country that frighten me (yes even before 11 September)....
The US is not a family friendly place at all, (education, healthcare), its not a very 'community oriented' place either. You can live next to someone for years and they don't even talk to you....people are very insular and live in their own bubbles. Its a rat race.

If you are single, and want to hang out in a big city like NY or Chicago or Miami or Los Angeles, it would be a great experience to have, and a lot of countries really do put a great emphasis on having US work experience, but on the main, I am with you as its not the place to raise a family.

I went to the US for three weeks. I went to LA, San Francisco and Seattle. Coming from Australia, it was a kind of rude shock to the system. Most people were very overbearing and LA Just FELT dangerous. Everything is bigger, louder and somehow obnoxious. My opinion of American people are very arrogant people who think that thier country is the centre of the universe. I know that not all Americans are like that. But i did have fun in the states. You have access tot he most amazing places, theme parks, Hollywood, Grand Canyon, it was an amazing place to visit, but i would never want to live there. Australia may be a lot of things, but it just suits me like a glove

Somehow I didn't understand why you put this question into section "General-Australia&New Zealand"....?

I liked it (Massachusetts - University of Massachusetts and Williams College). I got a much better impression of it than I'm currently getting from this website.

i am an American citizen living in the Philippines and would never raise my children there.
It is a good place for singles though.
The government is as corrupt there as it is here though, so I guess you can't get away from that.
