Have you ever been to the outback steakhouse in australia? does it look like the ones in the us?

Never seen an Outback Steakhouse in Australia and didn't think we had them here at all.

Just having a look at the Aussie one's menu and its a joke. I also have to tell you I'm a bit of a foodie.

The first item is something with ''shrimp'', quite simply, we don't eat shrimp, we eat prawns.
What the hell is drawn butter???
What the hell is tilapia????
Bloomin' Onions???
Monteray Jack, what on earth is that??????
Quesadillas? Is that some sort of Mexican food. I have to tell you Mexican is really not popular in Australia.
What on earth is Aussie Crunch????
Why the hell are they serving New Zealand lamb when ours is the equal of it????
Why are they using American Cheese when ours is much better?????
Who the hell is Blue Bell Ice Cream - never heard of them??
Oh dear god, shoot me now! One of their deserts uses oreos - aren't they some nasty chocolate biscuit the same as our Delta Creams which everyone hates??????

NO! Not going to eat there ever!!!!! I count at least 6 references to ''shrimp'' and to make it worse ''Shrimp on the Barbie". No Aussie worth their salt would ever refer to a prawn as a shrimp and no Aussie would ever say 'chuck another shrimp on the barbie'.

They can keep their fake Australiana.

I've never actualy seen one! I think the chain was created mainly for homesick Aussies overseas. The closest I can think of would be the Outback carvery which is heavy on the timber and farming implements for decor,
I've just looked at the web site for it- those recipes are soo not Australian! most of those ingredients have only very recently (past couple of years) become readinly available in Australia and no self respecting outback Queenslander would put Almonds in a salad- thats for nancy pants victorians!

The decor is similar however the food is a tad different. We went to the outback steakhouse in Anaheim in 2007 and it does not really resemble Australia, there were a few Aussie number plates on the walls, and pictures of Wombats, etc. The food is not Australia, But What is real Aussie food? I don't think we really have anything other than an ANZAC biscuit (Awesome, by the way). The service was very friendly and the food was great. And at least you can get a Tooheys New (Beer), that was a great relief, lol.

I live in Queensland and have never seen an Outback Steakhouse.

According to the Aussie website there are only 4 in the Australia, all in New South Wales.

From looking at the US and Australian websites the menus are different.

If anyone thinks we Aussies regularly eat what is on the US menu they are mistaken.

Anyway, it's cute to see how Americans see us :) That food is American food, and no one eats Mexican here by the way, especially not in Alice Springs ROFL.

But it's ok, Americans all wear cowboy boots, have rodeos, say 'wassup y'all', incessantly eat fried chicken and there are bison walking around everywhere.............right??? :D

Outback Steakhouse originated in the US, only over the past year or so they have started opening in Australia. With the closure of Chilli's many Outback Steakhouses have taken over their buildings.

So Outback Steakhouse is NOT an Australian restaurant but an American chain. I haven't been to one yet, the local one only opened a few months back but am going this weekend. It is in an old Chilli's building so I would expect it to have that decor.
