New Zealand Citizens will recieve a Special Category Visa if they enter Australia with a valid New Zealand passport. The Special Category Visa (SCV) is recorded electronically. This will allow them to live and work in Australia for as long as they remain a New Zealand Citizen.

However, a Special Category Visa may be refused if you have a serious contagious illness (tuberculosis is a prominent example) or have commited certain crimes. If you have a serious contagious illness or a criminal record, you would do well to first check with the Australian Department of Immigration to make sure you meet SCV requirements.

New Zealand Citizens on SCVs obtained after 26 February 2001 are not eligible for most social security payments (unemployment and sickness benefits for example) unless they formally apply for permanent residency and wait for two years after their successful application.

They can, however, apply for Medicare after proving that they will remain in Australia to live by providing two or more appropriate documents (rent agreements, bills, employment contracts, an Australian drivers license or
Australian bank card/statement among others).

SCV holders who do not satisfy requirements for Medicare cannot recieve subsidised doctors visits and medications; however, they will recieve free hospital care if they present themselves at the emergency department of an Australian public hospital.

you can just sit in the plane and come to Australia with your NZ passport you do not need anything.....however to be able to have Medicare you have to prove you will be living permanently in Australia....you have to show that you have sold everything . If you want to get Australian citizenship the immigration process is like any other nationality.

Nope, you don't need anything. You can just pack up your stuff and move and work there. Australia is the only country that you can.

nope you can just turn up, things are changing though, current political climate and all that. Last I checked you had to support yourself in Oz for 6 months before you are able to claim all the sh*t we Aussie's can like the dole or medicare.
