1) HUGE SPORT - The australian open (tennis) is played in Melbourne and the city has numerous sporting facilitys
2) BEACHES - Close to several world class beaches
3) SHOPPING - Shops and malls full of designer clothes and cheap bargins. Melbourne is Australias shopping destination.
4) TRAMS - Historic trams run through the centre of the city |

Great City, more cosmopolitan than sudney but not as coastal and fresh....great shopping and night life, great food and coffee thanx to the greeks and italians, love their sport and doing things outdoors as a community....really cool place....but i'm a sydney girl at heart.....worth a visit definately though. |

Melbourne is the state capital of Victoria and is the second largest city in Australia with a population of around 3.8 million people. Melburnians are equally passionate about football and ballet, fashion and restaurants and they still have trams for transport. Take a look at these two site for more information:

What are the specifics? It is a very broad question <smile>
I have lived in Melbourne all my 50+ years. In the suburbs yes but still lived here.
Yes the weather is changeable. The gardens are great. Great food and wines. Historical. It is a planned city, so not as much a hotch potch as others. Been voted the most liveable city. |

What would u like to know? Firstly the weather there is extremely changeable, going from cold to hot in the space of a few hours (most odd!). There is some cool architecture like the old train station. The city has cable cars to get around by. St Kilda is the fashionable suburb to stay in. U can go on a "Neighbours" tour, to "Ramsay Street". You could also take a day trip along the Great Ocean Road to go to a place called Phillip Island which is the place to view the Fairy Penguins in their natural habitat which was one of my best experiences when i visited Australia. |

Go to my 360 it is still a work in progress but there is a lot of good information about Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula
Melbourne is luck to to be blessed it is host to Port Phillip Bay the Dandynong Ranges , Westernport Bay Corio Bay , the Mornington Peninsula, and an abundance of parks cultural centres and entertainment .
it is a model to tolerance and multiculturalism,
If the world modelled it's self on Melbourne it would be a better place .
