As I am starting to become socked at the lack of common sense displayed by some people on here, there're a few things to remember.
1. You can't win something you didn't enter
2. No real competitions need you to pay out to get your prize
3. If it sounds to good to be true, it is.
4. No one asks for money or passwords/bank details via the internet, letters or phone without being super legitimate. Even then, you should only be volunteering this information as your choice, for example, if you are receiving a payment from someone you've sold your car to, they might need bank details if doing a direct fund transfer. Secrecy is good!
5. If you get a letter and the logos on it are pixelated or in slightly odd colours, it's a fake. Like the letters from the Spanish department for trade and commerce I keep getting telling me to fax them my bank details. I am not that dumb.
You should always report these scams to the police. They ARE illegal, and they NEED to be stopped. Think of all the poor old people who are trusting of these scams. If you don't report any scam e-mails/letters etc you get, you're as good as helping them con people. |

Yes you have.
You've also won £10,000,000 on the english lotto.
I work for them. Send me £1000 to process the "winners release documentation"
Then I'll get it processed straight away. |

Make a google search for 'lottery scam', and you'll probably see that they're just trying to get money out of you! |

Hi! Michael, this is definitely a scam, I receive them all the time, not just from one source but different ones, If I really won them I'd be a multi-millionaire!!! |

Hey, electriclove, at least Michael is asking. Think of the suckers who don't ask and plunge right in.
Michael, the senders of that email might have got your address from something and have sent the same thing to you and a thousand or more other people. This is much the same as the Nigerian fraud that has been going since before the internet where you get an email asking you to help get x million dollars out of the country. Just send details of your bank account!
Do not reply, do not give them any details of your bank accounts and do not send them any money. Even if you email them to get stuffed their computer system will not recognise that but it will recognise your address as a real one and you will get garbage emails till the cows come home.
Just delete it. |

The 'scammers' want your finantial details.
Before you give it to them, foward all your details to me including your pin numbers and I'll 'definately' make sure you get all you deserve.
I need new shirts, trousers, shoes.
I could use another watch....maybe get one for my mate also.
DON'T BE MUGGED.
But the above senorio could happen to you. |
