How can you migrate to Australia if you are over 45 years old?

My step dad and are family want to migrate to Australia but him and my mum are over 45. He is a jeweller by trade and has two sons from previous marriages living in australia. How could we apply for a visa?

I think he can if he has two children in australia as permanent resident....if the number of his and his partner's children living in australia is more than any other country..for example if he has three children and two of them live in australia he can..if he has four and two live in australia he can...if he has five and two live in australia and the other three each live in a different country then he can....this is called balance of family test.

Jonathan
If he became a plumber they might take him.

You can emigrate to Australia over that age as my mate's parents did so, although only for a year or so then changed their minds.

The main obstacle is a stringent medical that you have to pass and which must be retaken periodically (every year or so I believe). This was the reason my friend's parents gave up on the idea due to the hassle of retaking medicals and the knowledge that, sooner or later, it is likely one of them would have failed one.

I believe the top age is 50 for workers. But I know of people who retired there. They had to have family in Australia, and no family in UK, this was significant.
They also had to prove they had enough money to live on.

You should contact an Australian registered migration agent.

If you don't have any family in other countries you might be able to use the family reunion scheme. That's what we used, but that was 4 years ago an I'm not sure if that is still available.

HAYLEY915
As far as I'm aware you can't!!

i know people who have gone on a retirement visa but they may need to invest half a million in order for them to accept

But Why??

If he was an electrician, bricklayer, or plumber he would have a chance. Tradesperson shortage here, unfortunately lots of jewellers.

Timmy!
I am emigrating to Perth in a few months and have used a great migration agent called Concept Australia, in my home city Manchester. The two guys who run it were consular officers at the Aussie Consulate in Manchester till it closed in 1996, so they know absolutely EVERYTHING there is to know about visas etc. Give them a ring, their advice is free initially and they will give you an honest appraisal of your parents' chances
