I'm Australian, I know many blonde women and barely one of them is naturally that way. They are just as likely to bleach their hair as women of every other nationality, because they believe (probably rightly) that men prefer them that way.
The same goes for the guys, by the way. Most "blonds" (like Shane Warne) have bleached brown hair. They think it makes them look like cool surfie dudes (and they're probably right about that too!). |

Yeah...... you've hit it on the head... we're secretly a Scandinavian colony. We just tout the convict thing because it's more interesting. |

Most Aussies aren't blonde, we have a fairly equal blonde - brunette ratio and most blonde's get darker as they get older so get highlights to keep the blonde or dye it completely.
Most Aussies are of British or European decent. |

it used to be true that most aussies are of british descent but that is no longer true as many more immigrants have come over the years. the reason a lot of us aussies have blonde hair is because of the sun. it lightens our hair. but mainly our hair colour depends on our family background. a lot of aussies have light brown hair but a lot of people all so dye their hair. |

I don't think Australia has any more natural blondes than any other country with a majority of the population of European descent.
There's probably a lot of chemical bleaching going on, but I doubt that would be any more common either. |

One side of my family were Scandinavian and I've got dark brown hair.
Figure that out?
I think you'll find many people bleach their hair. My sister has for years, and with blonde hair she does look Scandinavian (but she's really a brunette just like me). |

We don't have an abnormally high blond population, but the stereotypical aussie, is generally blond becuase we live a very 'outdoorsie' lifestyle, surfing, swimming, cricket, farming, etc. So aussies are generally portrayed as sun bleached blond.
Asides from the aboriginals, we were originally a british convict settlement, but nowadays we are an extremely multi-cultural society, so i don't think we can really be considered of british descent? That's probably more my opinion than fact tho? |

Australians are largely from UK descent (this includes Irish and Scottish) and some other European especially Greek and Italian.
However I haven't noticed a particularly "blonde" thing - hair colour ranges from fair to dark... |

Australia have say about 10 percent Geman and Scandinavian origin but due to two world wars against Germany, The people who had German last names where treated very suspiciously.
So many changed there German names to English last names.
Don't forget the SUN has really tanned the Aussies over the years.
For example Australia and New Zealand are about the same age when the Europeans arrived but when you meet a Kiwi on average they are more fairer and look more Pommy.
That's because Aussies receive allot of Sunrise because we are closer to the Equater.

The viking's secretly raided Australia and raped and pillaged the local women. That's why there are more blonde's |

If they live in southern Australia, that is about the equivalent of Scandinavia in terms of latitude (but opposite obviously).
Less sunshine tends to equal more blond hair. |
