The Bali 9 and Corby BROKE the law of another country - why should our old or new PM doing anything to help them.
Next we'll be asking the PM to help us pay the household bills??
If you are SO concerned about the Bail 9 and Corby, put your millions of money into helping them defend for themselves, but you will be wasting your time and money. They have been charged after all. |

I am excited by the thought of Rudd as our Prime Minister it was certainly time for a change.
With the Bali 9 and Corby well they broke another countries laws and have to face their laws and lets face it we wouldn't like it if the Indonesians came over and tried to challenge our laws.
I feel for them and their families but I don't think the PM can do anything like I said their country their rules visa versa. |

Anyone other then Howard is great, Howard was to far up the USA's ****!
and if you do the crime you do the time, don't think much help will be going their way anytime soon. |
|

But Why??
 |
Dunno too early to tell.
When he puts the interest rates back up to Keating/Hawke level, watch everyone scream then.
As for Bali 9 and Whats her face, they should have thought about the consequences more carefully. Tragic though. |

How do the Australians feel about Kevin Rudd as their new PM?
I'm very impressed already, but that's not saying much when you compare him to who we had before. (I do think he'll do well.)
Will he help the Bali 9 or Corby?
I don't know that there is much Australia can do.
I think you'll find the majority of us feel they've put themselves in this position.
It's a very sad situation but so is drug addiction and overdose.
By bringing drugs into Australia they were prepared to ruin hundreds of other lives without a second thought.
As for Ms Corby: What the hell did she think she was doing? The girl must be a fool. Who takes drugs TO Asia? |

I voted for Kevin Rudd as Johnny Howard had to go.
I don't think Kevin Rudd should do a thing about the Bali 9 or Corby. They are fools who have been sentenced for their crimes. |

I feel good about Rudd as PM, although the Bali 9 et al. was definately not a contributing factor in my vote.
It's sad, that they are facing life imprisonment/death penalty, but it is after all Indonesian law, and they must have been aware of the consequences of their actions |

Why would a PM need to interfere in the rightful execution of another countries laws. Labor or Liberal our leader has no right to interject in the running of another country and how they administer their laws in their courts. Yes these people may be our citizens, but they were not blind, deaf or dumb when they left the country ( being fully informed before they left by immigration notices everywhere). They knew that what they were embarking upon was an unlawful act in the countries they were about to visit and they also knew the possible consequences of their actions.
Any Australian who leaves the Country not knowing must be living under a rock! |

All of them broke the law and should be punished but I do not agree with the death penalty and nor does the Australian Labor Party. I would expect our new PM to make a case for a reprieve for the Bali 9 at the appropriate time and I am sure he will be listened to. Commutation of the death sentences to a prison term would be appropriate. Corby was lucky she didn't get the death sentence. She was certainly guilty of drug smuggling.
As for Kevin Rudd, he's a breath of fresh air after 11 years of Little Lying Johnny. |

If anything the Labor party is likely to be more respectful of the laws and legal processes of our neighbours (unlike that galumphing incompetent Downer). I would not get too excited about the prospects for Corby and the heroin smugglers. Perhaps with behind the scenes negotiations, but I doubt it is a high priority. |

I am so sorry, but having travelled a little and having, had to socialize with many Americans, All from Different States of America.
MAKES ME STRONGLY DOUBT, that as an American in America. You would have the faintest idea about the Bali9 or the Corby matter.
If you are an American citizen, living in Australia. You should know, that a certain percentage of Australians can see a revisit to the 1970's & 1980's.
personal opinion about Corby & the Bali9, can't be stated here. As this is a Public Place. |

Absolutely gutted that the Aussie public could be so damn stupid to vote him into power!!
Labour voters have extremely short memories. Doesn't anyone remember the absolute pile of "doggie doo" our country was in during Keating's term in office?
ALL politicians are lying ba$tards, but give Howard credit where it's due, he pulled our economy out of the scrapheap & turned Australia into one of the world's leading economies!
So what did we go and do at the next federal election? Kick him out so a bunch of left wing trade unionists can destroy our economy again. The majority of Aussie voters fell hook, line and sinker for the sparkly beads & tinsel of Labour's election campaign - the Kyoto Protocol, troops in Iraq, and the biggie - Work Choices. What about the BIG issue, our economy??
I'm SOOOO glad I don't own a small business, because they're in for a tough time over the next few years.
I guarantee "KRudd" will last one term only. Watch him destroy our great nation within 4 years - you heard it here first folks!!
As for the Bali 9 & Corby, all are guilty as hell!! The people who say Corby was innocent don't have any idea, her whole family are renowned dope dealers! They could make more money selling ounces of Aussie buds to cashed up holidaymakers in Bali than they ever would back home. She'd done it loads of times before, got too cocky and got caught red handed. If she wasn't such an attractive looking girl, no one would give a flying feck about her. We didn't see anywhere near the same level of public support for Renae Lawrence, did we?
But I do disagree with the death penalty for cannabis smuggling - it's a bit of weed, not some soul destroying drug like smack. Heroin smuggling is another matter altogether - it wrecks lives and perpetuates crime in our country.
However, saying that, they all knew the risks, it's not our country or our laws so they should face the consequences. |

I'm one of the Australians who voted for Kevin Rudd, and I'm delighted in the change of government. I now have hope for our countries future, and especially that our troops will be called home, and that the Japanese Whalers are told to piss off!! As for the Bali 9, I dont know what can be done, but I wont object if our government speaks up on their behalf. Schapelle Corby should be brought home immediatly, as she's served more than enough time for a crime she didnt even do. |
