How does Australia have electricity, water, and internet?

More amazing is how does New Zealand have this?

If you were looking at a map of the globe and knew nothing of history, you would think Somalia, Honduras, and the satellite countries of Russia would all be more developed than Australia because
Australia has no land borders at all and is wayyyyy down in the middle of nowhere.

But Australia is like in the top 6 most developed countries on earth. How is this possible? Who would believe it? A land filled with rabbits and bushmen and pubs is richer than countries FILLED with oranges and coconuts and cocoa plants and borsch?

HOW did this miracle happen?

What is the secret to the wealth of Australia?

Australia has valuable resources: STEEL, gold, coal, gas, diamonds, iron ore, Nicole Kidman, everything. Plus 40% of the worlds uranium.

So when we don't like a country, we give uranium to their enemies so that they can blow some stuff up.

Keeps the balance of power.

Ironic really that Australia has tonnes of uranium but not one nuclear warhead. All our military equipment is dud, but at least we have the worlds biggest rabbits..

Are you for real? Seriously. I don't even know where to begin there are soooo mnay smart **** comments just waiting for me to put here but quite frankly, I don't need the violation notices.

Australia is one of the richest natural resourse countries on our planet! It is one of the reasons why the current global credit crisis caused by irresponsible Americans (and destroying the banking industry in Europe) has yet to hit us too badly.

We are not a land filled with rabbits and bushmen (what the hell is a bushman anyway??). We do have a lot of pubs though, I'll give you that one!! We are a land full of opportunity where people are free to hold whatever opinions they wish to. The fact we are so isolated means that our agriculture is largely untouched by the pests and diseases that easily cross borders in other regions of the world. They are kept out by extremely strict customs & quarantine laws. We have an education system that doesn't descriminate between rich and poor. You are entitled to schooling no matter where you live.

A lot of countries you are thinking of were ruled at one time by other larger countries. Just look how long it has taken India to come out from under British rule. They are now the 2nd fastest growing economy on the planet.

Poor ERIC, you know mate we even have television, the internet and speak English.

Bushman, hahaha, mate, you've made my day.

It amazes me how many people think Australia and New Zealand are backward 3rd world countries. We are a country full of brilliant people and many of the world inventions that are used everyday were developed by Aussies. I admit it is very isolated and at the end of the world but that works in our favour too. We are isolated from some of the real bad problems that dog other countries and we have our own unique way of life. I for one do not want to change that.

Sheep are the secret to the wealth of Australia. Or at least they used to be. These days it's more to do with iron and uranium.
Although to be fair, we don't have much water, we only get electricity by burning large quantities of coal, and the quality of our Internet access is nothing to write home about. Kevin is sorting all that out for us though.

Flashlight
Your a downright ******* idiot. I mean what the ****. Internet? Are you bloody well serious? I honeslty don't understand why were considered to be bogan *** bushmen who prance around farming and building fenses. Bet your bloody well AMerican arent you. thinking your top ****. Who the bloody hell is backing your goodamn **** in the bloody wars you've created. We are. Still have troops over there getting killed. Trying to bring peace and ****. Gah sheep? Think you've confused us with New Zealand there mate. Go die in a hole. So ******* uneducated. Schools in America should learn more about other cultures instead of their own. Bunch of Dickweeds. The lotta ya. Knobhead

He's gone fishing.
The only thing that makes Australia tick are some of the Aussies in it. True Aussies will do anything to get any job done, do anything to help a mate or someone in distress. Unfortunately the true Aussie spirit is dwindling away with the elderly people and not being passed onto the youth. Some people posess the true Aussie spirit, but a lot don't.

Elizabeth
I don't understand why our lack of land borders would have any impact on how Australia has developed.

The secret is our natural resources, agriculture and work ethic.

(Actually, it's all done with smoke and mirrors we don't have the internet or electricty and only sometimes have water.)

christine sss
LOL LOL HAHAHAHAHAHA

Your so funny.

Because australia rocks, literally with some of the worlds best mineral deposits, producers meat to be exported to middle east & usa, wool and wheat exports etc. Were so brilliant we even sell camels to the middle east!

Quite simple - that fact that we have no aggressive neighbours (I'm not forgetting about Indonesia, but they simply don't come into this particular equation at the present time, or in the past), means that we can get on with life, without constant arguments about borders.

The miracle happened approximately 200 years ago, when the British thought that they were sending us out here as penance.Yeah right!

The joke is pretty much, on the British Government.

During the early history of Australia our economy practically had a monopoly on fine sheep's wool. It was in such high demand that our currency at the turn of the 20th century was the highest in the world. Since the middle of the last century our economy has been increasingly reliant on various mining industries. Japan and China can't get enough of our iron ore and natural gas and pay a premium for it. We also mine manganese, gold, diamonds, zinc, bauxite (for aluminium), mineral sands (used to make silicon) and many others.

Having tough customs controls (to protect our agriculture and wildlife) has also meant that our agricultural industries are largely free of diseases, radiation and toxicity from pollution that you would find other parts of the world. So our produce is in high demand elsewhere too.

There are a lot of developing countries that are rapidly industrialising now. India, China, Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan all need the raw materials that Australia has in abundance. There was a time when Australia's location was a hindrance to trade. With the Asia Pacific region taking off into the stratosphere, we are now in a prime position to take advantage of that. Many European and American companies have their regional headquarters in our cities because we speak English and we have a good relationship with most of east Asia. We are no longer at the end of the world.

It's possible because the English invented both those countries along with all the top countries in the world .

The British colonized it in the 1700's. They founded America

Iskandar
Australia was a British colony

Kirra
We have the greatest intelligent / scientific minds in the world here. Mainly due to the fact we have the greatest educational system in the world.

ETA:- I just love the uneducated comments by people who have never lived here and know nothing about our country. Credit Crunch? We are in the best position to sit out the recession. It hasn't hit us as hard as the rest of the world, due to our fairly decent fiscal politics in the past.

theps3.master
because they cause the credit crunch

Mogo
It's expensive to live in Australia. They import pretty much everything.
