You can't compare. They are like chalk and cheese. NZ is beautiful and untainted. Heaven on Earth compared to USA.

OMG i cant even believe these two countires are even being compared LMFAO!
Google NZ and see how gorgeous, how its not over populated, how they spell in English, how free, how happy, how they arent wondering around with guns, how few serial killers there is, etc
to get your answer

No we are not a religious country, sure we have people of different creeds, but not everyone is religious nor belongs to the same religion. I wouldn't even rate us anywhere along side the USA we are different. Sure we speak English and we have access to the same sort of technology as America but that's where the buck stops. Check out this website to find out more about our beautiful country.

I have lived in the US for 5 years (Pasadena, Scottsdale, Manhattan, Stamford/Connecticut), and I now live in New Zealand. Even though I liked it in the US, my feeling is that it is not the same country it used to be. New Zealand though is still the same old thing, and I love it here. You will find that its climate and nature most resemble Oregon and Northern California, the cities San Francisco. The culture and the people are more European. It helps if you've been to, and liked, Great Britain. The lifestyle is a bit more like that, too. You may find the houses and the way you live in them remind you of California in the 1950s. The cars are a bit more economically-minded than in the US, and the roads windier and narrower (pretty European there, again). You get about two- to three times as much paid vacation as in the US, wages are about the same, taxes too. pension and healthcare are socialized, so no real need to save up for retirement, and healthcare is paid for by taxes. Work here is far more relaxed than in the US. Less pressure, more job security. Less ambition, too, though. In terms of religion, feel free to bring or start your own, it's very open. Religion has no part in politics, it's strictly segragated, but everybody has one, of course. Honestly, if I was offered to move back to the US now, I would decline. I love the peace and mellowness here. Good luck in your choice, but why not come and check it out first?

New Zealand is often erroneously depicted as a utopia. It isn't. It is still a very good place to live. I have lived here permanently since 1997, being born in the US in the late 1950's. I would not be here but for mychildren but I have no regrets. Generally speaking there is a greater feeling of safety here. In addition, unlike the US, severe poverty does not exist. There are many poor people who struggle, but there is not the widespread homelessnes or extreme poverty. There is no Mexican food or Dr. Pepper. There are hangi and Peanut Slabs. It is expensive to eat out here and the bacon is a soggy mess.

Although Maori are 15% of the population, they have few rights as Indigenous Peoples with next to no legal authority over local affairs. Compare this with tribal sovereignty that we have as American Indians. On the surface Maori seem to be heavily colonised. After awhile, though, everyday Maori life is more rooted in tradition then evryday American Indian life. While we have to strive constantly to maintain tradition, it is simply a natural occurrence here.

There is a strong nanny state government, regardless of who is in power. It can get annoying. The people here are generally friendly, much more so then in the US. There is also a much stronger sense of community here. The education system is not so flash. free education costs an arm and a leg. High Schools all require uniforms and there are many attempts to strong arm school fees which are supposed to be voluntary. In addition, families have to pay for all exams in the last three years of high school really put the boot to "free education."

Overall, there are many differences, yet also a sense of familiarity. It's a good place to live, slower paced, and mellow. I do get homesick from time to time, but annual visits help out. I also have Sky Digital (Much more expensive then US equivalents) so I do get baseball, gridiron (football), basketball, etc. to go along woth the rugby union, rugby league and cricket.

nz is my home :)
we have our share of problems here like everywhere else, it is not as clean as we would like it too be but better than other places. getting work isnt too difficult, but we dont have the same sort of resourses that you have in the states. things may seem cheaper here but they arent really, the are about the same but less variety. um, hope that helps

I'd go to the USA but I'd never go to NZ ............ unless it was to get away from the Kiwis!!

USA is concerned about gang warfare, drugs and crime. New Zealand is concerned with the quality of their ice cream, which is the best in the world. You get SIX SCOOPS of real cream ice cream, for $2.50.
New Zealanders are among the world's most friendly and helpful people. They are what the US was 50 years ago. Peaceful, tolerant, hard-working and just plain wonderful.

Most poeple in NZ have an inferiority complex to Australia. Most want to live in Australia and the way things are going soon they will all be here! Fly over NZ on your way to Australia. You'll be glad you did ;)
