Brisbane's bayside suburbs have beaches. Not very good ones and they don't have surf, but they're still beaches. Wynnum is about 30 minutes from the CBD and Redcliffe around 45 minutes.

To the north, the closest good beaches are at Bribie Island (SE Queensland's best kept secret) with still water on the beautiful Pumicestone Passage side and surf on the other - around 1¼ hours to get there. A bit further north is Caloundra at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast - 1½ hours.

Surfers Paradise is a little over 1 hour to the south if you get a good run.

Nudgee Beach would be the closest the the city. Not the prettiest beach in the entire world but a beach it is! It is close to the airport and it is popular as a dog off leash area. My dog loves Nudgee beach and she doesn't seem to mind that the sand isn't white and that there are three headed fish swiming in the water.

You also have the the beaches on the Sunshine Coast which are just as nice and are also an hours drive north of Brisbane.

The Tooth Fairy
the gold coast basically is surfers paradise. it takes about 45 min to an hour driving (depends how fast you drive lol)

there are beaches around brisbane such as southbank, redcliffe and bribie island although you wont find any waves there.
