In summer the temperatures often reach 30 degrees Celsius along the coast. Its hotter and dryer inland, stay near the coast although the humidity can be high you can also enjoy the seabreeze and beaches for a tan. Dont take the sun lightly though we have the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world here :(

A tan?? Why? Isn't that kind of a seventies and eighties thing? You don't see a whole lot of people craving skin damage anymore. Unless they are older and stuck in the wrong decade. It makes your skin dry and wrinkly looking. Soft, healthy, and well hydrated skin looks nicer nowadays.

Today the temp in Tasmania is 9 deg and Dawin the temp is 34 deg.
You did say Australia.

But Why??

Australia stretches from about 40°S in Hobart to 10°S in Darwin. This gives the northern hemisphere equivalent of San Francisco to Costa Rica or Madrid to Sierra Leone. You would not go out in the sun in Mexico or the Sahara desert without taking adequate precautions against the Sun. In summer the UV levels in Australia are extreme everywhere. People with good dark tans die early with skin cancer.

If you want to check the temperatures etc for wherever you want to go in Australia you can look up the climatic averages here:

i live on coast just south of brisbane in queensland and it does get very hot but we dont have the humidity that many places get due to a lovely sea breeze. remember, to slip slop slap ( slip on shirt, slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat ) while your here. tanning is nice but get one out of a can as skin cancer can kill.

Elizabeth
Where are you going to be?
Are you saying you'll be here during our Summer?

If you're looking for a "good dark tan", you're obviously not concerned about also getting skin cancer and melanoma.

Good lord...get a spray tan! Skin cancer isn't attractive you know. Especially if you have to have a chunk cut outta your face which is what happened to me and my aunty and heaps of people I know from living in our hot climate for years and never wearing sunscreen!

Temperatures vary in Australia in summer...where I am from it can get to 50 degrees celcius and is way too hot to go to the beach!

It also depends on your skin...my cousin is half Italian and can go dark brown after tanning for a day or two whereas it would take me ages to get that way as I am purely Australian. Some overseas tourists you see get burnt bright red and seem to stay that way...very painful!

Like I said...get a spray tan or use a tannning cream...don't use solariums as a crusader for skin cancer died in Australia just last week after contracting melanoma from tanning herself in solariums!

Depends on where your going. If your going to Queensland, like the Gold Coast then you could definitely get a good tan. But places like Melbourne and Adelaide I wouldn't be so sure because the weather is usually a bit dull, although some summer days are really hot. Sydney gets quite warm as well, the beaches are usually a very good place to get a tan in summer.

big country depending on where you go as to how hot it is
but you will have no problem getting skin cancer & a tan if you dont use sunscreen

Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world, you'd be crazy for wanting to overdo it. Pick somewhere nice and mild (Sydney?) then work your way up to tolerating the weather and sun. There's an old Aussie saying,

'Only mad dogs and english men go out into the midday sun!'

Spend summer (Aussie summer) in the southern part of the country and venture out to the northern part of the country in late winter or spring. Other wise you could kill yourself in 47*C and extreme UV.

But if none of this appeals, please try Marble Bar in Western Australia for summer, you'll get that tan all right.
