Perth holds the record for the hottest temperature of any city on the planet, with 44.2 degrees celsius! Trust me the summer months are great, but boiling! Long pants will defiantly get to hot during the day, i would wear shorts for sure!
Summer in Perth: The official start of summer in Perth is December, finishing 3 months later at the end of February. The weather is warm to hot over the summer months, although the hottest months are usually January and February. The weather is fine and dry, and rain at this time of year is very unusual. Perth also enjoys a refreshing afternoon sea breeze known as the Fremantle Doctor which brings welcome relief on hot days.
Average Summer Temperatures -

January: Daytime 30-33C, Overnight Minimum 18-21C

Its hot! That is the middle of the summer luckily you are right on the water so you will have the option of swimming if you get too hot. Just be careful the waves are killer on the west coast of Oz |

Its going to be HOT! always is in Summer. temperatures above 30 degreese celcius most days. Up to 40 degreese. Yes you will feel too hot in pants or trousers, that is out doors. All shops and buisnesses have air conditioners, so if you are inside during the day you may be able to get away with trousers. At night it is still hot but not as bad. |

Average temperature is between 27 - 30 degrees
I think you would probably be too uncomfortable in pants but that's just my opinion!
Good luck with your trip! |

I wear shorts from mid-September to about May, and my area never reaches those temperatures.
We never exceeded 30.3°C last summer over in Brisbane Bayside. |

The average maximum temperatures since 1994 in Perth are 28.7 in December and 30.7 in January, however the Australian Bureau of Meteorology is predicting an 80% chance that these averages will be exceeded for the coming December and January. On the hottest days, temperatures over 40 are not too uncommon in either month. |

There will be days when it will get up to 40C.
You need to be wearing shorts and a T-shirt and be near a pool, beach, air-conditioned place...
finally summer is almost here... aaahhh.
EDIT
I can't believe that perth only had 8 days exceeding 30C... it felt damn hot were i live near perth. Those stats dont reflect the truth. READ MY ADVICE!
It gets really hot. You can feel the heat when you get out side. Like a wave of heat that hits you!scortching. (but it feels nice).
Its a dry heat like the ppl above said. Unless we have a cool summer. |

Its going to be hot, but won't be at its peak. I'd expect 30+ possible 40 degs Celsius. Definitely shorts, no way I'd where pants then. Also Perth is a very dry heat and australia in general has a high amount of UV due to the whole in the ozone layer being so near by.
I remember when I was fruit picking in the desert in the states it was about 35degs Celsius, everybody was complaining how hot it was. all the aussies thought it was about 25degs and not that bad. The temp maybe the same but the heat feels much more intense here |
