A somehow laid-back environment surrounded with the warmth and friendliness of people. Great outdoors with numerous national parks, beaches, mountains and the of course, the outback. If you are a nature lover, Australia is perfect for you.
The cities are very internationalised with people and cultures from all around the world - making life in the cities very exciting. Not to mention the huge night scenes. There are huge cities like Sydney and Melbourne, but there are also not-so-big cities (my favourite) like Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Good thing about living in the Australian cities? You get to go to the beach almost everyday of the year!!
The Aussies are generally outgoing and open-minded (more so in the cities) - they are very easy to get along with. You might have problem communicating with the country folks because of their accent (especially in far north Queensland), but that's part of the fun!
The caveat is, you pay a lot of tax in Australia. The interest rate is rather high at the moment, which means it's perfect to save up but it's torturing to pay the mortgage. That being said, the quality of life is great if you have a decent job and medicare.
Things are generally more expensive in Australia compared to, e.g. USA (which is why you get more pay in Australia than in US). The standard of living can be high in the cities, but as the others pointed out, it's still low compared to cities like New York, London or Tokyo.
The country is also suffering the worst drought in the millenium, so water restriction is in place in certain areas. However, the impact it has on the quality of life remains minimal.
Is Australia a great place to live? Hell yea!!
Is Australia the greatest country in the world? Unlikely. The government is getting better, but it'll still take time to be real good.
Is Australia safe? In general, I think so. At least I didn't feel unsafe or insecure in the last 5 years. |

As a person who has moved here from another country, I would have to say that Australia is fantastic!
Sure it is starting to get a bit expensive (ie. petrol, groceries), but really, where isn't. We have most of the opportunities you would find in bigger countries but a safe and comfortable lifestyle to go with it.
We are able to experience and appreciate all the cultures of the world even if travel is not within your means, beautiful beaches, gorgeous country, spellbounding cities, and everything that comes in between.
As far as I am concerned, all this makes for a full and happy life. |

Great people in Australia. (MYSELF EXCLUDED) Quality of life is great but is becoming more and more expensive. Especially in Perth recently. Sydney has been expensive for a long time. No worse than a lot of other places such as London and Tokyo etc. |

Australia is a very large landmass, and it is sparsely populated except for the coastal fringe. While there is chocolate box beauty here and there, the arid centre of the country is stark, unforgiving, and rather formidable if one is used to European meadows, etc. Personally, I adore the grandeur of semi-desert, and the morning and evening times are spectacular, in a lonely way.
The tropical North of Australia (where I live) is underpopulated, very friendly, and the climate is generally magnificent. Cyclones are not nice, though.
The Eastern Cities (Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide) are what most people think of when they refer to life in Australia. The people are not quite as 'nervous' as either Americans or British, but not much less. There is a certain 'casualness' that many visitors like.
Hobart and Perth are not atypical of Australian cities, but they are a bit more 'insular'.
Life quality is what one makes of it to a greater extent than in a more 'settled' place, I would imagine. It would be wrong to claim that social 'class' does not exist here, but I suspect that it is less entrenched than almost anywhere else.
Australians are capable of amazing hospitality, but prejudice exists here, as it does everywhere.
At one time, it was felt that, to really develop ones intellect, it was mandatory to spend time overseas. This no longer applies! |

Perth is good because of the amount of jobs, there is just so much avaliable, also its out of the way of the big big cities, its the best way to go is perth!
plus its a nice place to live, rent and housing is cheap, food is cheap, but petrol prices are getting up there at the moment |

I am so glad that I was born here in Australia. (so was my parents and grandparents) We don't have border wars, we have a diverse climate and geograhpy. Living in Australia we can experience, snow, desert, tropics and the great barrier reef. This is all here in an isolated place down under. We don't have neighbouring countries warring with us. Most people here help their fellow man, especially in the smaller towns. The big cities are different. I live in a place with a population of 10,000 and I would never live in a major city. The people here are great. We all say HI and all look out for each other. |

Come over for a holiday and find out for yourself. If your after warm weather most of the time, then stick to the top half of Australia and pick a town from Brisbane to Darwin. If your after a cooler weather climate, then choose a town at the bottom end of Australia. |
