the amount of time it would take to drive from america to australia would be approx. the same if you were driving from australia to america.
if you are planning on driving over the ocean which could take time and a lot of money or you could go the easy way and dig a hole thorugh the centre of the earth and then just drive straight through there.
personally i would choose the second option although digging the hole could be a problem but you could always get one of those giant drills to dig through the earth.
hope i helped and good luckwith the trip =P

How long can you hold your breath , and what sort of Car are you using ?

Bardy
There are not too many service stations in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, so I would fit a long range tank first.

cc_of_0z
About 3 months by sea, assuming your car is fit for travel on the open Ocean.

MAIT stop asking stupid questions !!

Get yourself a world map and take note of the amount of water between Australia and america. You will have to wait till underwater cars are invented.

If you left Texas, you could be in Queensland in less than 3 minutes.

It's "mate"... and you'll firstly need a diesel 4WD with a snorkel. If you've already got that sort theeeeennnn, probably about 8 months depending on the currents.

Stupidity Leak
Depends on what sort of car you are driving. It will take you anywhere from 3 months to a year. You should find a good mid - ranged price car for your trip, and make sure your windscreen wipers are in good working order, cause you'll need 'em.

good luck.

well, you'd have to spend hella money to send your car from Australia to America by boat...or have a floating car .....you should definitely think before you ask such things

LOL!!

You can't be serious!

Ok, so assuming you are serious:
I reckon you should be able to make it by the 12th of Never, next year if you left tomorrow... assuming you dont get yourself lost at sea.

Go get yourself a map of the world!
The blue part is water and the coloured parts are land. Red lines on the land signify roads... red lines at sea signify that country's territorial claim to the ocean surrounding it.

Note: There are no roads between America and Australia, but there is an awful lot of ocean. There are two ways to drive across... on the sea floor and on the surface.

The ocean floor ranges from shore depth to many kilometers in depth. There are sheer cliffs on the edges of continents, deep valleys called trenches and underwater seamounts. I take it your vehicle is capable of handling those depths and conditions?

There are also no road signs on the ocean floor, and GPS doesnt work kilometers underwater as it needs to be in contact with the satelites in the sky. Im not sure how you are planning to navigate... the compass can be affected by deviation and earth's variation and the craft can be edged off course by currents. I take it you are a fantastic navigator and have a fine craft.

Being self sufficient for a long haul drive like that would be a problem as I have yet to find a service station in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
You would need to be able to generate your own oxygen and air supply for both you and the motor. Visibility is most likely to be very poor and lighting would be a constant problem and would require constant generation of electricity, which takes up fuel. How large are your fuel tanks? Or have you acquired a nuclear submarine for the crossing??

An ocean going yacht takes about 3 to 6 months to sail that distance, depending on the weather and difficulties encountered and if they stop in at islands for a visit. I do not know of any carlike vehicle making the crossing on the surface.

Ships on the other hand take about 4- 6 weeks for the crossing. So if you find a car ferry/ car carrying ship that can take you car...,
but then again you will face Customs and Quarantine once you reach port and then will need the vehicle checked before it can be registered to drive on Australian roads...

So yeah, IF you can work all that out, let us know when you are leaving and when your ETA (Expected Time of Arrival) is!

Good luck Mate, look forward to hearing of your adventure!!

LOL!!
