How long would a drive from sydney to melbourne take?

with some breaks along way....

Show all answers

David from Australia
I do this drive about once every couple of months, and depending where you are going to/coming from in Sydney and Melbourne as well as the time of day you will be going through those cities, the drive takes about 10 hours, including stops for fuel, meals and "wee" breaks etc

Its a really good drive, however be careful in the bit between Holbrook and Albury as thats a particularly dangerous piece of highway.

Drive carefully.. :)

It can take around 10-15hrs with breaks but longer if you want to stop overnight. It's much faster if you fly, only taking 1½hrs from Tullamarine to Mascot and you can get a cheap deal through a budget airline like Jetstar.

Around 8hrs going inland. I would suggest flying if you are going on holiday and do not need a car. Much quicker, safer and possibly less expensive if you get a good deal via one of the budget airlines. The drive is quite long and monotonous. Take plenty of breaks and drive carefully, especially with the trucks that are plentiful on that route.

It generally takes 9 hours if you travel via the Hume Highway through Albury/Wodonga; or 12 or more hours is you take the Pacific Highway coast road.

Karen
Its about 900 km so I's said you will take about 12-15 hrs with breaks in between

Crystal
It usually takes 7 hours , it took us that long and we stopped for short breaks, for coffee or fuel, but it depends how long you want to stop for !! The average time is around 7 hours.
