Your friend is pulling your leg, as are some of the answerers on here.
I don't think anyone has ever been killed by a koala.
They do not suck blood and rarely drop out of trees.
Dropbears do not exist but many of us enjoy watching foreigners faces when we tell them about the dreaded dropbear. I've seen people from overseas walk through the bush continually looking up trying to spot a dropbear so they can run for their lives before it falls on them.
I'll probably get thumbs down from other Aussies for giving away secrets, and I probably deserve it. |

Your friend is confusing Koalas with Dropbears. The Dropbear is indeed a vicious creature, found in trees in the country and fringe suburbs and mainly a hazard at night.
Indications of Dropbear activity are small shallow depressions around the bases of large trees. Blood is seldom found as it is consumed rapidly by the Dropbear. |

Koalas are NOT dropbears.........
and are harmless.. .it's the dropbears .. .that have the same appearance but are definitely not the same species that you REALLY have to worry about |

No, no, no.. That's a drop bear, not a koala.
Drop bears drop from trees and steal your clothes, they don't suck your blood. |

Ooh, dozens, maybe hundreds (and that's just in one week).
Hey Elizabeth, it's cool, the foreigners won't believe you anyway, they've been too indoctrinated with lurid stories about our murderous wildlife (mainly spread by Australians). |

Killer koalas stand about 6 feet tall and weigh in excess of 300 pounds fully grown. They are not to be mistaken for drop-bears though. |

LOL
None that I know of.
Your friend sounds like my husband-- when I first came here, he told me emus used to sit on wings of planes and stop them from taking off.
Koalas don't like being around people. They are very quiet and isolated-- but they do have extremely sharp claws and are protective of their children as are all animals. I have never heard of a person getting killed by one though! |

Your friend should seriously consider a career as a standup comic. That is, without a doubt, the best joke I have heard for yonks! I am sorry, have to stand up, pain in my side from laughing so hard is killing me...please God, send me down a Koala and put me out of my agony. |

Your friend is confusing the Koala with a Dropbear, which is really a fictional creature, like the cute little Haggis' that roam the Scottish hills...the rest of Australia may not be pleased that I have disclosed this fact, but if it stops you from stressing...its not skin off my nose (and now you can trick your other unsuspecting friends by telling them about these 'dangerous bloodthirsty creatures'!) |

• Koala • uʍop ɹǝpun

No, people are NOT killed by Koalas.
A drop bear (or dropbear) is a fictional Australian marsupial said to be related to the koala.
