How much colder is Sydney than Brisbane during winter?

From what I hear Sydney is unbearably cold while Brisbane is pleasant during winter. Is the difference really that much. Also, when they speak of 6-7 degrees, is that usually during the night or during the day too? thanks

You hear wrong, Sydney is NEVER unbearably cold. The nights can get cold but the daytime is usually quite comfortable. Brisbane is warm all year around and a bit too hot in the summer. Melbourne is cold, freezing at night. Don't forget the coldest time of day is when your in bed asleep, you wont notice it.

This site will give you the average temperatures for each month in Sydney. http://www.sydney.com.au/weather.htm

Unless your from somewhere like Dubai where its 30-40degrees all year around you wont find it cold. If you think Australia gets cold, then don't bother going to the UK or USA in winter.

Sydney isn't unbearably cold most who say this have no Idea how cold it can be.

I'm in Melbourne & its quite a bit colder down here & occasionally we get days in the lower single temps in winter.

Still bring a warm jacket & jumper & you will be good in any state you visit

Coldest by far is Canberra then Tasmania, & Victoria. Sydney isn't too bad, I lived in Sydney for 30 years and found winter a bit cold in Winter, Qld. is mild ie. a dooner, 1 jacket and a jumper will probably get you through a couple of months of cool weather.

It depends on where abouts in the city you are looking at. I have been in Ipswich (Western suburb of Brisbane) and it has been -4 C / 25F overnight and the temperature rose 10 degrees an hour for 3 hours. On the coast in Brisbane the coldest in winter would be about 8C/46F and would reach about 24c/75F during the day

also been in Richmond (western suburb of Sydney) where it has been 0C/32F and had fog all day.

The coastal suburbs are much warmer and less of a temperature variation than the suburbs more inland that I mentioned above

What are you, a lizard? How is 6-7 degrees unbearably cold?

Sydney isn't really too much colder. Sydney has tempretures around 16 degress in the day time, while Brisbane has around 22 degress.

At night, Sydney gets down to about 9, and Brisbane can can down to around 12. Although, you do get the odd frost in Brisbane.

Thanks for the question =)

about 10%C
daytime in brissy 23% night 15% avarage
daytime in Sydney 15% night 5% avarage

but gets hotter & colder depending on the weather a lot less rain in Brissy in winter

Definitely not. Sydney is nowhere near unbearably cold in winter. Unless you're from the Sahara, it should be fine.

Sydney averages 26°C (79°F) in summer
Brisbane averages 29°C (84°F) in summer
Sydney averages 18°C (65°F) in winter
Brisbane averages 21°C (70°F) in winter

It isn't odd for either place to have weeks in winter that average that of summer.

Also, Brisbane's average temperatures dip to almost the same as Sydney's in the night time.

Last year I left Brisbane with a short sleeve top on in winter. When I got to Sydney, I put a jumper on and by late afternoon, my friend lent me a jacket as well.

Brisbane is much more pleasant during the Winter. Average daytime temperature is around 25 degrees Celsius. Sydney often experiences some extreme storms over Winter and can get golf ball sized hail! The 6-7 degrees I would say is the day.

Sydney is bloody cold in winter..
