dont call straight from the telephone!!!

But one of those phonecards from a newsagent or a post office where it only costs you a few cents per minute.

they are very good. When I was in Japan on a 2 week trip, I picked up a cheap phone card and it works fine.

The best thing is that you use your own home ohone for it and it doesnt cost your phone anything at all! Only charges against the card.

The ones at the newsagents and 7/11's are fine....$10 or $20 and lasts for hours!

I find the cheapest way to call overseas is a pre paid phone card like a joy card, it might be about 10cents a min, you can buy them from newsagents and other places, they are a bit of a hassle but you can talk for ages, I have a friend in denmark and I'm in Australia

depends on your phone provider, but i call the US from Victoria after 7 for only a couple of $ for an hour or so

Bardy
I call California and Uk every week and it costs me $1.48 per 45mins with Telstra.

depends what phone company you use... i have heard phone cards are cheaper though... so search around for a deal.

i don't know costs to be more specific, sorry.

You can buy prepaid cards from some newsagents or post offices.they cost between $10-$50 and you get hours of talk time. The one I have ($20) gives you 8hrs to the U.S.

You could try something like Skype (but only free when its Skype-to-Skype) or VOIP. My VOIP provider charges about $0.019 a minute to the US.

The simplest option though has to be the cheap phone cards that others have already mentioned.

From Hamburg,Germany to Australia it is less than 1 Euro-Cent per minute. Funny a local call is at least double expensive.
Greetings from Hamburg, Germany
