How would a US Citizen go about moving to Australia and becoming an Australian Citizen?

What are my options as far as obtaining a visa?
What other things would I need to do?
What type of things should I be careful of in the process?
I have heard horror stories of companies screwing people over and they get to Aus and aren't there legally even though the company they paid claims everything was in order. I don't wish to become one of those horror stories.

Responder 1080 is quite right you now.

Before going/talking to your local Embassy, it would be a good idea to have a look at the DIAC website - www.immi.gov.au (the Australian Migration site). It has a wealth of information and many visa options. It would make it easier for you to decide which visa best suits your situation. Then I would take this information when contacting the Embassy.

In general though, Australia is in need of highly skilled people or people who can invest a lot of $$$. However, there are some other options, but you would have to check these on their website.

BTW, most likely you will become an Australian permanent resident for a few years before you can apply to become an Australian citizen.

I hope you have a successful migration journey.

Hi,

There are no short cuts to come to Australia. Deal only
direct with Australian Diplomatic Missions or with the
Company Employer. Do not deal with private individuals .

Rgds.................

CAPTAIN BEAR
Go to the nearest Australian Embassy and ask for the forms required for emigration purposes. Good luck mate.

be honest with yourself, to me you sound as if there is something to watch out for. if I were the consular officer, Ia m denying you a visa right away.

but, you certainly have a right to visit and to do legal work and to apply for citizenship after a while.

every information is available online at the ussie embassy anyway, if you are genuine!

DemonSlayer06
you would have to fill out alot of paper work to become a citizen in then you will be 15 hours ahead of all the usa people here it would like 1 day ahead of us here

The best source for info would be the Australian Embassy in Washington, DC. I'm sure they have a website. I believe you have to have a certain amount of ready cash - credit cards, bank drafts, whatever, and a return trip ticket, just in case things don't work out. Oh, and you should have a Australian citizen act as your sponsor. You really need to have a marketable talent, like CPA, Med DR, Teacher, etc. College degrees are looked upon very favorably. Applying to join the Australian Military is also good! Visas are approved, for students, travel to fill a promised job (work visa), tourist, etc.
Good luck, Mate!

sorry i thought it was Canada hence the Commonwealth bit.....but in the end its money that talks...trust me...my fiancee is American and once you have a job its all good....( the skills thing is over-rated)....hes been here 3 yrs( New Zealand that is...Immigration laws almost identical).. mostly laboring ,and temp work....the government basically is more concerned that you wont be on welfare......Good Luck & Happy Trails!
