I live on the n wales coast-it depends.some people make friends , but if your face doesnt fit,the locals can blank newcomers out.Your probably best renting some tempory accommodation first, just to test things out-or come stay with me for a weekend !

Sheeeesh, I guess the fact that a lot of Americans live in the carribean is a good off putter. The coast would be a good thing to do. But don't fall into the trap of thinking that somewhere people go for a holiday, would be a good place to live. If you had any idea of the number of people who live by the coast but do not take advantage of the fact, you would not believe it.

I live by the coast, and it was all going to waste. Although it suits me, it may not suit you, but I took up fishing in the sea. I just love it, especially night fishing. Love the fact that I often catch my food for the next day.

The clubs are great if I want to go clubbing, I'm not a sun and beach lover because my blonde hair and blonde complexion does not like the sun, but I have found my own way of using the coast.

So don't make the move unless you are prepared to take advantage of living at the coast and set out to enjoy it. Hope that helps darling.

Mr Bigs above has given some good advise. Good luck

I don't mean to be rude but why have you asked this in Australia? I live in the East Midlands and love the area where I am, but, if I could afford to live on the coast, and was well enough to do so then I would be off like a rocket! If you haven't got any ties then go for it. You only live once you know! lol:-D

Come to Weston Super Mare - it's full of Brummies (hysterical local generic and affectionate term for anyone who comes from anywhere north of Bristol) and Welsh people (polite term for Welsh people).

Give it some serious thought. I moved to Cornwall 14 years ago, and regretted it for the first 4 years. The people did not make us welcome, in fact they were downright awful to us, Local people do not welcome incomers, We applied for local jobs, but were not considered, We were not included in local events, and our kid's were bullied at school It gave me a good insight into how foreigners feel, moving to Britain, as we were treated like foreigners. But being tough Brummies, as we are, we did not give in, and stuck it out . Eventually, our son married a Cornish girl, and our daughter married a Cornish lad, and our grandchildren are all Cornish born. I now feel that we are part of the community at last, but we will never be fully accepted.

Without any disrespect to Wales, it appears in a lot of the towns that they do not to like the English. If you have roots from abroad that is fine, but English, you are a no no.

I had a cousin who moved there, and still lives there, but the people have been awful to her and her family, so much so she had to move and then to pretend she was another nationality. Everything was fine after the "nationality change".They were not a loud or obnoxious family either, all they wanted was a peaceful quiet life.

I think you may be making a big mistake.
