I just came back from Austraila 3 weeks ago. You certainly do need a visa and your passport has to be valid for 6 months after the date you plan to leave Australia.
The visa is not expensive.

I'm a bit worried about your travel agent if you have to ask this question.

It is electronic now and should be included in the bar code on your passport - your travel agent should have told you this. We went to Oz in 2000 and paid about ÂŁ10 each. I don't know what the cost is now but as far as I know, you still need one!

If you are in any doubt at all, contact Australia House.

Good luck and enjoy your visit - we loved it!

Penfold
Why not visit the website of AUstralian immigration http://www.immi.gov.au/ or ask the Australian Embassy in London? However, to answer your question, you need an Electronic Travel Authority.

Quentin
You need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority). You can get this online from http://www.eta.immi.gov.au/ or through your travel agent, usually for an additional fee.
