I'm a US citizen, 18 years old, moving to Australia? |
My family wants to move to Australia and we need as much information possible. We are planning to move to Perth and need info on a few things.
1) Am I allowed to go there without a Visa since I'm a born US citizen?
2) If I have to get a Visa, will my age make a difference.
3) Will I be able to get a job there, without a work permit? |

1) Everyone needs a visa to enter Australia. US citizens are subject to the same rules as everyone else.
2) Your age makes no difference to the visa rules. You're an adult and that's all that matters.
3) No one is allowed to work here without a visa that allows them to work. You would be able to easily get a 12 month Work and Holiday visa that would allow you to work, but at the end of the 12 months, you would have to leave.
Apart from the W&H visa, the only way to move to Australia and be able to work is to qualify as a skilled immigrant. You must have qualifications and experience in a listed occupation in which workers are in demand here and you must also meet health and character requirements.
If one of your parents qualifies and you are dependent on them, you would be able to come in on their visa with the same work privileges as they have. If you're not dependent on them, you will have to qualify in your own right and that's impossible for an 18 year old to do as you're not old enough to have the required qualifications and experience.
You could also come as a student on a student visa with limited work privileges (20 hours per week during the semester and unlimited hours during official vacations). That may be your best bet as Australian qualifications count for more than those from overseas and you would probably qualify for residence at the end of your studies.

You need to call an Australian Consulate and ask them. |

Isn't perth a bit too far away? well anyway, no because you are a US citizen, it does not give you any priority above other people. You must get a visa.

No, no, and no.
You should contact the nearest Australian consulate to where you live, they can give you much more precise answers on how to do these things. |

being a US citizen means nothing as far as immigrating you will still have to apply to immigrate like everyone else
you can not enter without a visa and you can not work without one either
the main applicant must be a skilled worker in an occupation australia needs, as you are 18 to come on your families visa you must be wholly dependent on them otherwise you will have to apply on your own
this site will show you everything you need to do |

there are several web sites that could help you one is www.australia.gov.au and another is www.dfat.gov.au (this is a good site) or just go into google and bring up Australia where you will be able to find all the information you need.
another useful site is smartraveller.com.au which will have links you want to know about.
if you are immigrating for permanent residency you may not need a work permit but the above sites should be able to tell you.
Perth is a beautiful place.
welcome.
